How Will ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ End? 3 Shocking Fan Theories
Jenny Han loves to tease us. Another tantalizing image from the third and final season of The Summer I Turned Pretty was posted on the show’s Instagram page on June 20, leaving fans reeling about the ending of this addictive summer romance. The question on everyone’s minds seems to be the same: Who will Belly (Lola Tung) choose?
Will she choose the seductive, older Fisher brother, Conrad (Christopher Briney)? Or will she stay with the more playful and sweet, younger brother, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno)? Based on the trailer, we know that Belly starts The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 at Jeremiah’s side as she begins college, following a four-year time jump from where fans left off at the end of Season 2, with Belly choosing to be with Jeremiah and Conrad choosing to step back. We also know that Jeremiah and Belly prepare to get married this season, but we don’t know if they go through with it after some pushback from Belly’s mother, Laurel (Jackie Chung), in the trailer.
The Season 3 poster features the season’s tagline, “We’ll Always Have Summer,” above Belly looking at the camera wearing a white dress, holding a bouquet of white roses, between the two brothers. Conrad is staring at her, facing away from the audience, while Jeremiah sits on a stool facing us. Steven (Sean Kaufman), Belly’s older brother, is behind them in an intense stare-off with his girlfriend and Belly’s best friend, Taylor (Rain Spencer).
Does this mean that Jenny Han is confirming our suspicions of Belly actually choosing to marry one of the Fisher brothers, as the end of the trailer teases?

Although we won’t have all the answers until the season comes out on July 16, fans are already weighing in on the different possibilities for who this elusive wedding might be for, and who Belly will choose after all.
Let’s dive into three shocking fan theories for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3.
1. Steven and Taylor are the ones getting married
Some fans on TikTok are theorizing that Steven and Taylor will either break up at the start of Season 3, or will start the season already broken up. In the trailer, Steven says, “It has to mean something, though. We keep coming back to each other, and it never really feels like it’s over,” as an image of him twirling Taylor around plays under his words. Regardless of when the two possibly split the first time, we know that they will be reconnecting in more ways than one this season.

Also in the trailer is an image of Steven getting into a car accident and Taylor crying in a hospital room. After this, we don’t see Steven in the trailer again, but we do see the elusive wedding scene. Some fans theorize that Steven and Taylor get back together after his near-death experience, and the wedding planned throughout the season for Jeremiah and Belly will end up being for Steven and Taylor. In this theory, fans say that the dress Belly is seen wearing at the end of the trailer is her bridesmaids dress for Taylor and Steven’s wedding, not her own wedding gown.
2. Belly and Jeremiah’s intimacy will cause a breakup
One of the main reasons why Jeremiah and Belly decide to get married in the book is that she’s never had sex, and he wants to consummate their relationship. Some fans took Belly’s virginity in the books to be such an important part of who she is and her relationship with Jeremiah, especially when he is intimate with another girl named Lacie on a trip to Cabo while they are on a break. This situation causes a huge rift in their relationship in the books, and it is unclear based on the current trailer whether or not this will also be an issue in the show.
After the iconic fireplace scene in Season 2 between Conrad and Belly, we know that in the show, she is not a virgin. Some fans theorize, however, that she will lie to Jeremiah about this, and it will cause a different type of mistrust that will contribute to the end of their relationship, as well as prove that Belly’s heart still belongs to Conrad.
Because some of the major plot points regarding Belly and Conrad’s relationship are already different than those in the books, it’s unclear whether or not the same will be true of Jeremiah and Belly, but some fans on TikTok (mainly the ones in fan of Belly choosing Conrad) are hoping that Jeremiah and Belly will struggle with their intimacy.

3. Belly chooses Conrad
Although we don’t want to see Steven die in the car accident, some fans think that he will, and that’s what will inspire Jeremiah and Belly to end things for good. As Belly says in the trailer, “Life is too short not to spend it with the person that you love,” as she walks down the aisle in what could be her wedding dress.

Fans believe that the death of her brother will inspire Belly to go on a trip to Paris, as there are images of Tung filming the show in Paris, and reunite with Conrad, who convinces her to come back to Cousins — the iconic beach where it all started for the Fisher brothers and Belly — and get married.
At the end of the day, these are all just theories. No matter what happens, the only guarantee for Season 3 is that it will be another summer to remember for Belly and for the fans rooting for her.
