Book To Screen

‘Bridgerton’s Regé-Jean Page Returns to Romance With ‘Funny You Should Ask’: Everything We Know

The wait is over, Bridgerton fans. Regé-Jean Page is finally returning to romance.

On July 8, Deadline announced that Page and Emily Brown, his producing partner (and longtime girlfriend), are set to executive produce the book-to-screen adaptation of Funny You Should Ask on Apple TV+. This news comes after a long competition for the rights to Elissa Sussman’s 2022 novel by the same name.

Alternating between the first time their paths crossed and their reunion 10 years later, Funny You Should Ask follows the dual-timeline romance of journalist Chani Horowitz and prolific movie star Gabe Parker. Chani never planned on becoming a central character in her profile of her celebrity crush. Now that his PR team has requested a follow-up, it’s finally time to find out if their days together were as memorable for him as they were for her.

Scroll to find out everything we know about Apple TV+’s Funny You Should Ask, including the release date, cast announcements, and more!

When does Funny You Should Ask come out?

At this time, Funny You Should Ask is in development, so there is no official release date. Per Deadline’s announcement, the film will be produced by A Mighty Stranger Productions, Page and Brown’s production banner, and Tomorrow Studios. Rachel Alter, who wrote for The Society and Outer Banks, is set to pen the adaptation.

Who has been cast in Funny You Should Ask?

As an executive producer for the project, Page also intends to star in Funny You Should Ask as Gabe Parker. Not-so-coincidentally, the novel sees prolific actor Gabe Parker take on the coveted role of James Bond. Much like the character, Page has a real-life connection to Bond, as one of the leading contenders to follow in Daniel Craig‘s footsteps. Whether portraying an actor who plays Bond will help or hurt Page’s chances of getting the real gig is anyone’s guess.

At this time, no one has been officially cast in the series. However, fans have shown their support for actresses such as Emmy Rossum and Rachel Brosnahan to play Chani, and actors such as Chris Evans and Glen Powell to play Gabe.

Is Funny You Should Ask based on Chris Evans?

Funny fans should ask for Chris Evans to take on the role of Hollywood heartthrob Gabe Parker because many believe the character is based on the Captain America actor. The author herself has addressed these rumors, confirming that she took inspiration from Evan’s infamously intimate GQ interview with Edith Zimmerman. In an interview, Sussman confessed, “[Gabe’s] based on a lot of people, and Chris Evans was obviously one of those people because of the article.”
