Will Criminal Minds: Evolution‘s next team celebration be a wedding? The end of Season 18 certainly set it up to be the case.

In Season 18 Episode 8, Tara (Aisha Tyler) was shot and envisioned herself having a conversation with her late mother. Once she was recovering, she proposed to her girlfriend, Rebecca (Nicole Pacent), while visiting the BAU and surrounded by their friends. Rebecca said yes.

“We know how difficult this job is because it exists in the real world. There are real profilers that really do this work, and it requires incredible personal sacrifice. Tara is not delusional about that. Tara knows exactly the life that she’s chosen for herself. It’s something that means a lot to her. She believes in the work. And so I think there was a part of her that was frightened, and I think there was a part of her that was protective,” Tyler explained to TV Insider. “But I think she also — in going through that moment of coming close to death, you just start to realize what’s important to you. And I think what you understand is that life is fleeting and you have to love as hard as you can, even if it’s only for a brief moment.”

In the next episode, Tara asked Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) to officiate the wedding, but made it clear that she and Rebecca had yet to pick a date. The finale was then focused on stopping the disciple, Tessa (Jordana Spiro), who had taken over Voit’s (Zach Gilford) network. So the stage is set for a wedding in Season 19 … right?

Well, showrunner Erica Messer revealed to TV Insider that there will be a one-year time jump between seasons. “In that year, there’s been healing, there’s things to celebrate,” she teased.

Does that mean we might not see Tara and Rebecca’s wedding onscreen, and it might have happened in that year? Messer was very vague when addressing that.

“I think Aisha’s keeping this a little bit in the dark, too, so I don’t want to put it out there in the open, but there is a reason to celebrate, meaning we’re not going to put them through the drama that they got put through in the seasons prior, certainly in Episode 8 when she was shot. But we took a page from something that happened to one of our writers who shared something with us in the writers’ room when we started on Season 19. So we’re like, I think that’s how we’re going to handle that. And that’s a little bit of a tease, but you’ll get to see when we get there,” she shared.
