Robin Roberts Shares Rare Photo With Wife Amber Laign to Celebrate Their 20th Anniversary
Robin Roberts had a heartfelt reason for skipping Good Morning America‘s Monday, July 28, episode.
Roberts and her wife, Amber Laign, celebrated their 20th anniversary as a couple by traveling to Rwanda to take part in the 2025 Giants of Africa Festival, which brings together over 300 young athletes from across to continent to participate in community, educational, sporting, and entertainment events.
“We’re in #Rwanda as guests of @inmuwetrust_ & @giantsofafrica celebrating young basketball players across Africa,” Roberts captioned an Instagram snap of herself and Laign working on a construction project on Sunday, July 27. “Every last Saturday in the month in Rwanda is a national day of service!!👏🏽Wonderful way for the two of us to celebrate 20 years as a couple…it certainly has been an adventure! 💕#goafestival.”
Fans congratulated the couple on their relationship milestone in the post’s comments. “A day dedicated to service every month is such a beautiful thing!! Happy Anniversary 🎉🌟,” one fan wrote, while another added, “A beautiful way to celebrate 20 years of being together. Happy Anniversary. ❤️❤️🌻🌻🦋🦋.”

“Happy anniversary 🎉 may both of you be bless with many more years filled with love, happiness, peace and lots of hugs ❤️,” another Instagram user commented.” A different person wrote, “This is amazing. Thanks for the photo,you look so happy, even in a new time zone.happy 20 years❤️❤️.”
Several of Roberts’ ABC colleagues also gushed over the pair in comments of their own. “How incredible!!! Happy 20 years!! 😍,” wrote Gio Benitez, while Whit Johnson posted, “What a special trip! And happy anniversary ❤️!” ABC World News Tonight host David Muir also dropped a single red heart emoji underneath the post.
Laign commemorated her and Roberts’ anniversary with an Instagram video of 2025 Giants of Africa Festival participants dancing with one another. “Robin and I celebrated our 20-year anniversary in a way we’ll never forget — in Rwanda, with Giants of Africa, surrounded by the energy, joy, and spirit of youth from 20 African countries,” she captioned the clip. “From dancing to community service that touched our hearts, this experience reminded us what truly matters: connection, purpose, and giving back.”
Roberts also shared a video of Laign dancing at a Rwandan festival. “No matter where we are in the world…she hears music and she’s just gotta dance! Never a dull moment with this one. #happywifehappylife,” Roberts captioned the post.

Though Roberts didn’t publicly announce her relationship with Laig until 2013, she revealed the two met on a blind date in July 2005 during a 2014 appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The couple tied the knot after nearly 20 years together in September 2023.
“An intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception…ohhhh the dancing!!” Roberts captioned Instagram pics from their big day at the time. “We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”
Unlike Roberts, Laign lives a life out of the spotlight. However, she does make an occasional appearance on her wife’s social media feed. “The sun has set on a magical week that I’ll forever cherish,” Roberts captioned a sweet Instagram snap of herself and Laign watching a sunset during their April vacation to Florida. “Grateful to be rested and rejuvenated for my return to @goodmorningamerica Monday morning.”
In the April 13 post’s comments, Laign wrote, “A magical week to say the least💫 So many moments my heart skipped a beat with you by my side 😍✨.”
