T.J. Holmes Refers to Amy Robach as His ‘Wife’ in New Podcast About Marriage
It’s been nearly three years since T.J. Holmes and Amy Robach‘s relationship went public, but have they taken the next step and secretly walked down the aisle? Holmes had fans asking that question after a comment he made on an episode of the I Do, Part 2, podcast.
The couple was having a conversation with longtime lovers Gretchen Rossi and Slade Smiley. They ended the chat with Rossi saying, “We wish you guys luck in your relationship, too. I know you guys have been through a lot.” Holmes replied, “My wife and I appreciate that.”
He did laugh after making the comment, though, and putting it in context … it does appear to be a joke!
The joke stemmed from Rossi discussing why she and Smiley have yet to tie the knot, despite being together for more than 15 years. “It wasn’t until just this year that him and I started talking about it again and were like, ‘Okay, I feel like now would be a good time to go finally get married,” she explained. “But here’s the thing: We call each other husband and wife because we have been together for 16 years. We have a daughter together. Everyone views us as if we are married because we live our lives as if we’re married.”
She added that she and her longtime partner “don’t even think of it that we’re not married.” So, Holmes was clearly just riffing off of the point Rossi made, hinting that he and Robach also feel like they’re a married couple, despite only being together for three years.
However, Robach pointed out the length of her relationship with Holmes before things romantic between them. “We were friends for eight years and talked about relationships with each other without any design for romance in any way,” she said.
The pair met in 2014 when Holmes started working at ABC News, where Robach had been employed since 2013. In 2020, they became cohosts on GMA3: What You Need to Know. At the time, she was married to Andrew Shue, and he was married to Marilee Fiebig. When Robach and Holmes’ romance was exposed via paparazzi photos in November 2022, it was not publicly known that they had each already separated from their former spouses. (Shue and Fiebig are now in a romantic relationship themselves). The journalists have insisted that there was no overlap in the relationships.
