Hallmark’s ‘Providence Falls’ Is Based on a Book Series: Your Guide to the Reading Order

Providence Falls book series

Hallmark Channel continues to level up with its newest project. The network is dipping its toes back into the adaptation world with Providence Falls, a special TV event that will air throughout August.

Providence Falls, executive produced by JoAnna Garcia Swisher and starring Katie Stevens, Lachlan Quarmby, and Evan Roderick, follows the love story of Cora and Liam, who first fell in love in 1844 Ireland. When their romance alters Cora’s destiny, Liam is sent to present-day Providence Falls to try to correct her fate. Liam has to make Cora fall in love with another man so she can fulfill her destiny. While Liam retains all his memories of Cora, she has no recollection of their past lives.

Providence Falls is based on the bestselling book series by Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheets. With this adaptation headed to Hallmark, you might want to dive into the source material either before, during, or after watching. Is there a specific reading order? Swooon is breaking down what you need to know about the Providence Falls book series.

Providence Falls: Chance of a Lifetime (Book 1)

The first Providence Falls book was published in September 2020. Chance of a Lifetime introduces readers to Liam O’Connor and Cora McLeod as they fall deeply in love in 1844 Ireland. They believe they’re meant to be, but the angels disagree. Liam’s later reunited with Cora in Providence Falls, North Carolina. The angels task Liam with helping Cora fall in love with another man, Finley Walsh, the one she was supposed to marry before Liam walked into her life and changed everything. However, this version of Cora is far from the innocent girl from 1844. She is a confident cop with her own convictions who also has no memory of Liam. (You can buy it here.)

Providence Falls: An Impossible Promise (Book 2)

The second book, published in September 2021, picks up where the first book left off. Liam and Cora, both police officers, have to partner up for a murder investigation. They grow closer as they work on the case together, even though Liam is supposed to keep her at arm’s lengths. Sparks continue to fly between Liam and Cora, and she begins to fall for him all over again. Liam still has a deal with the angels, and he’s got to make a choice about his relationship with Cora or risk losing his soul. (You can buy the book here.)

Providence Falls: Thief of Fate (Book 3)

The final novel in the Providence Falls book series was published in October 2022. Liam is caught in a bind because he’s been given three months to set Cora’s predetermined destiny with Finn in motion, but feelings have gotten in the way. Liam, Cora, and Finn find themselves in a high stakes love triangle. Finn’s got feelings for Cora, Cora’s in love with Liam, and Liam has to give Cora up or face eternal damnation. Will he be able to make that sacrifice when it’s all said and done? Or will Liam and Cora chart a new destiny for themselves? (Buy the final book here.)

To get the full Providence Falls experience, you should read the books in publishing order as you would with the three Hallmark movies. The books can’t be read as standalones. Happy reading!
