Who Does Darby End Up With in ‘Love Life’ Season 1? Ending of Anna Kendrick Show, Explained

In 2020, Anna Kendrick starred in the show Love Life on HBO Max. The anthology series also aired a second season, which starred William Jackson Harper in the lead role, in 2021.

However, in December 2022, the streamer announced that the show had been canceled. It was removed from HBO Max but is now seeing a resurgence in popularity after being added to Netflix. Whether you watched the show back then or are just catching up now, scroll down for a refresher on how things ended for Kendrick’s character, Darby, in the Season 1 finale.

Who did Darby end up with on Love Life?

Darby ended up with Grant (Kingsley Ben-Adir), a man whom she met during the final episode of the season. Although there were plenty of other love interests from her past who popped up multiple times throughout the series, it was Grant who was “the one” for Darby.

Darby met Grant at her friend Sara’s (Zoë Chao) wedding. At the time, Darby was focused on raising her toddler son but had her mom babysit for the night so she could attend Sara’s nuptials. Grant seated her at the wedding and they spent the night talking.

After Darby invited Grant back to her hotel room and they shared a kiss, he ran out to grab them some drinks. By the time he got back, Darby had fallen asleep, leaving him locked out of the room. He left her his phone number, but she appeared to not get in touch.

Things were clearly meant to be, though, because Darby and Grant ran into each other just a few weeks later. In a flash forward sequence, the two were seen together, with a narrator confirming that Grant is Darby’s “person.”

Who is the father of Darby’s baby on Love Life?

The most recurring love interest in Darby’s life was Augie (Jin Ha), who ended up being the father of her child. They met while out at karaoke in Episode 1 and quickly started dating. However, when Augie left town for work, the relationship fizzled out.

In Episode 3, which took place two years later, Darby ran into Augie, who was in a relationship with somebody else at the time. Although they had a conversation, nothing happened between them. In fact, it wasn’t until Episode 9 — after Darby had married and divorced another man, Magnus (Nick Thune) — that she crossed paths with Augie again.

They ran into each other at a mutual friend’s party, hooked up, and got back together. However, after he embarrassed her at a work event, Darby began questioning the relationship, even after she found out she was pregnant. She wound up ending things with Augie, and when the show flashed forward two years during Episode 10, it was revealed that they were coparenting their son, Theo, but no longer in a relationship.
