9 ‘The Deal’ Book Scenes We Must See in the ‘Off Campus’ TV Series
Now that we’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of Garrett and Wellsy’s friends-to-lovers romance, it’s about time The Deal hits the small screen.
Lucky for us, back in October, Elle Kennedy announced that the Off Campus series was picked up by Prime Video! Now that the cast announcements have rolled in and filming has officially begun, the full Off Campus crew has been keeping us fed, dropping everything from adorable character teasers to behind-the-scenes pictures on set.
Much like The Deal, Season 1 of Off Campus is set to follow Garrett Graham (Belmont Cameli), a college hockey star with a struggling GPA, who strikes a deal (Get it?) with his classmate Hannah Wells (Ella Bright) to tutor him in exchange for some much-needed social clout. As the skater and the singer grow closer, it becomes clear that their unexpected friendship has the potential to become much more.
While we already know that the adaptation will look a little different from the beloved book series (See: Justin Kohl’s rockstar character description), we’re hoping that the book-to-screen adaptation will take a page out of The Summer I Turned Pretty‘s book by featuring some of the readers’ favorite moments. From Garrett and Hannah’s first kiss to the iconic locker room scene, we have to admit there are plenty of beloved The Deal scenes we hope will make the cut.

Garrett & Hannah’s meet-cute
It wouldn’t be a love story without a meet-cute, and we have to say, Garrett and Hannah’s first official meeting is pretty perfect as is. As readers will recall, just pages into The Deal, Garrett watches as Hannah “stumbles on absolutely nothing,” causing her books to crash to the floor. When Garrett sees that Hannah had aced the midterm he just failed, he can’t help but put on the charm to convince her to tutor him. After Garrett presumptuously calls her “baby,” Hannah rips him a new one, proving that she is absolutely not another one of his puck bunnies.
Garrett’s (& Dean’s) first kiss with Hannah
Who could forget the scene when Garrett tells Hannah that she’s “too intimidated by [his] potent masculinity” to plant one on him —for science, of course. Once they finally start to kiss, Dean walks in as the duo are going at it, and Hannah claims that Garrett is just a friend stepping up to help her practice her makeout skills. Calling her bluff, Dean tells Hannah she needs a “second opinion” and convinces her to practice a kiss on him, too. Cue: woefully jealous Garrett Graham!

Hannah’s obsession with One Direction
If there’s one thing we know about Hannah Wells, it’s that our Wellsy loves to bust a move to a banger by One Direction. Sigh, she’s truly just like us. Not only do we hope to see Hannah and Garrett’s “I’m going to kiss u!… Kill u! I meant KILL. u. Damn autocorrect” typo debacle on TV, we’re dying to hear “Story of My Life,” “You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful,” “Night Changes,” or even a 1D deepcut like “Stockholm Syndrome” hit the soundtrack. After all the needle drops on The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, we know Prime Video has it in them.

Allie & Dean’s first interaction
During The Deal, Hannah’s bestie Allie (Mika Abdalla) is knee-deep in a relationship with a baseball player named Sean. However, readers know that she can score a much better catch. During Season 1 of Off Campus, we cannot wait to bear witness to Allie Cat and Daddy Dean’s first interaction, setting the stage for the events of the third book in the series, The Score. No, really, we can’t wait three seasons for this life-altering relationship to take wing.
Garrett becomes Hannah’s bodyguard & bartender
As The Deal sets its course for the small screen, we’re hoping that the adaptation will take careful consideration when it comes to accurately depicting Hannah’s high school trauma. As Garrett begins to learn more about Hannah’s background and why she doesn’t let loose at parties the same way her friends do, he takes on the role of her protector for a night out, creating one of the most tender moments in the series. As he put it in the book, “Look, I’m the DD tonight, but I’m offering to be more than just your driver. I’ll be your bodyguard, and your bartender, and most importantly, your friend. I promise to look out for you tonight, Wellsy.” Ugh, Garrett Graham, the dreamboat that you are. Can this show premiere like, yesterday?

Logan yearning for Hannah
Garrett’s bestie Logan may not come out on top of The Deal, but that doesn’t mean the Book 2 lead won’t have his own swoonworthy moments during the first season of Off Campus. As readers may recall, before Logan meets his love interest, Grace, in The Mistake, the hockey star is head over heels for his best friend’s girl, Wellsy. Whether it’s the relationship he yearns for or the person in it is a whole other question.
Beau Maxwell’s birthday bash
Per their titular deal, Garrett is set to take Hannah as his date to star quarterback Beau Maxwell’s birthday bash to catch the attention of her crush, Justin Kohl, in return for her tutoring services. From the introduction of Dean’s beloved bestie, Beau, to the true peak of “just a friend” Garrett’s jealousy, we’re sure this is going to be an episode for the ages. Plus, did anyone else see the entire cast posting pictures of fireworks? Seems like Beau may have a few tricks up his sleeve for his big day!
Hannah & Garrett go all the way for the first time
Once Hannah lets Garrett in, they begin to take baby steps towards sleeping together, even though Hannah is convinced that Garrett’s “man monster” is going to rip her in half. After multiple steamy scenes where Hannah grows more comfortable being vulnerable around Garrett, the couple finally decides to go all the way on Halloween, during Chapter 29. For a spicy series about a spicy book, it’s safe to say that this scene will be worth the wait.

Hannah enters the locker room
The infamous locker room scene is quite possibly the most anticipated onscreen moment in any book-to-screen adaptation in production today. Towards the end of the book, Garrett’s father threatens Hannah, causing her to break up with Garrett. Convinced Hannah doesn’t actually want to split, Garrett puts into effect a campus-wide hands-off rule, convincing every guy in the student body that Hannah Wells is off-limits.
When Hannah finds out why no one will give her the time of day, she storms into the hockey team’s locker room, trying to find Garrett through a sea of deeply naked men, or as she puts it, “a penis convention.” As a YA series, we’re not entirely sure how Off Campus will handle this scene, but we’re certain it will be hilarious either way.
