Will ‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ Go Beyond Season 3? Showrunner Reveals Plans

[Warning: The below contains MAJOR spoilers for My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2.]

Season 2 may have only just come out, but My Life with the Walter Boys is already moving full steam ahead on Season 3, which fans will be glad to hear after that cliffhanger ending.

Beyond leaving the fate of the Walter patriarch up in the air, the Season 2 finale also didn’t wrap up the love triangle drama between Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez) and brothers Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry) in the slightest. In fact, the show’s final moments made their situation even more complicated by having Alex walk in on Jackie confessing her love for Cole.

Swooon asked Walter Boys showrunner Melanie Halsall to break down where the three of them stand at the end of Season 2 — you can read that here — and we couldn’t resist trying to get a little insight into where things go from here, too. If Netflix gives the go-ahead, will the show continue even after Cole and some of the other seniors go to college?

First, Halsall assured us that Season 2 only takes place over the course of a semester, so high school graduation is still a few months off. “It kind of starts September time and ends around December time,” she clarified. “So we have a little bit of time yet before we lose our characters to college, but I would love to continue the story as they get older and mature in these schools. Of course, yeah, I would love to.”

Walter Boys fans, you can rest easy! So far, Netflix has only renewed the show for Season 3, but Halsall doesn’t necessarily see the story finishing there. The showrunner doesn’t have a specific number of seasons in mind, but she does have an endgame, and she’s “mapped this out a long way down the line.”

“I’m fascinated by these characters and these stories in this world, and I would love to keep telling these stories for as long as people keep watching them, would like to keep watching them,” she said. “So you never know. We might be seeing our characters get older and older as we go ahead, but I would love to keep telling these stories.”

Still, Halsall was tight-lipped about which characters will get more focus in Season 3. We were curious about Issac (Isaac Arellanes), in particular, since he gets a bit more to do in Season 2. “We’ve got a lot of characters on our show, and I think they should all get their place in the sun,” she offered.

As for which romantic arc she’s looking forward to showing fans, Halsall couldn’t pick just one. “I love all of our romances. I really, really do,” she said. “I think the Kiley-Dylan relationship in Season 2 is really fun, and especially with the separate triangle with Alex, I’m really excited to show people where that’s going to go.”

At Walter Boys’ core, though, is the complicated relationship between Jackie and the brothers. Is there any chance Jackie makes a definitive choice between Alex and Cole before the show reaches its end, or will it continue all the way through?

“Our show is always a love triangle,” Halsall said. “It’s based on a love triangle. It’s based on romance. And so for the moment, that’s the core of our show. So for the moment, that’s not going to change.”
