Mel Owens is looking for love on Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor, and he had his sons in the back of his mind when filming. The new lead is a proud dad to two boys, Lucas Owens and Andre Owens.
He introduced his boys to the public when they all attended a Los Angeles Rams game and posed for photos on September 7. Then, the official Golden Bachelor Instagram account shared a video of the three men discussing Mel’s upcoming journey on the dating show.
“I thought it was a good opportunity for you to put yourself out there,” Lucas said, with Andre adding, “We hope you find someone you truly love.” Mel also gushed over his sons. “There’s nothing like it when you have kids,” he said. “There’s a whole new meaning to love.”

How old are Mel Owens’ sons?
Lucas was born in 2005 and Andre was born in 2007, which means they were 20 and 18, respectively, when he filmed The Golden Bachelor. Their ages were confirmed in the intro video posted to the show’s official Instagram.

Lucas and Andre are both currently still students. They are passionate about baseball, and Mel revealed that he even coached them growing up.
“Watching you guys play, coaching you, that’s been a joy,” he noted. “It still is.” Meanwhile, the boys recalled how much their dad was there for them growing up. “Dad, I think you’re loving, caring,” Lucas said, with Andre adding, “Showing up for our games, helping us train, making breakfast, lunch, dinner, just showing love for us.”
Lucas graduated from Santa Margarita High School and plays for the Southern California Renegades. The SoCal Renegades bio reveals that he committed to Orange Coast College for baseball, which is confirmed by his LinkedIn.
Meanwhile, Andre is expected to graduate from Santa Margarita High School in 2026. Per his X bio, he has committed to Oklahoma State University for baseball.
What happened to Mel Owens’ wife?
Mel shares his sons with ex-wife Fabiana Owens (née Pimentel). The two tied the knot in 2002, and she filed for divorce in 2020, according to Us Weekly. Following the divorce, Mel’s focus was on his then-teenage sons.
“While life took an unexpected turn with the passing of his father and the end of his marriage, Owens channeled his energy into being the best father he could be, focusing on raising his sons and coaching their extracurricular sports teams,” the former football star’s Golden Bachelor bio revealed.
Per Us Weekly, Mel and Fabiana, who is 19 years his junior, agreed to joint custody when they divorced. They cited irreconcilable differences in their filing, which was finalized in December 2024, according to Daily Mail.
