Who Pays for the Engagement Ring on ‘Love Is Blind’? A Full Breakdown

With how much drama unfolds during Love Is Blind, we usually don’t spend a lot of time thinking about the engagement ring. But when Season 9’s Anton Yarosh mentioned that he spent $5,000 on his ring for Ali Lima — who thought her fiancé should have spent at least double — we found ourselves wondering about the bling.

How much do the contestants typically spend? What goes into the process of picking a ring out? Does Netflix help with the down payment? We need to know all of the behind-the-scenes details, and luckily, Love Is Blind creator Chris Coelen has them. Keep reading for everything he said about the engagement ring process.

Who pays for the ring on Love Is Blind?

It turns out that Anton didn’t actually fork over any cash of his own for Ali’s ring, unless he paid extra.

“We supply them with the rings, and at that point, those rings are theirs,” Coelen told Entertainment Weekly. “They never have to give them back if things don’t work out. They’re their rings. And if they want to say that they paid for them, then that’s up to them. They can say whatever they want.”

Coelen went on to explain that the rings are “generally in that $3,500 to $5,000 range … with some variations.” He added, “If they want to upgrade their rings, they’re welcome to do that. We have nothing to do with that. We give them the rings, they do what they want.”

Now that we know that, we can’t help but wonder: Why did Patrick Suzuki ask for the ring back from Kacie Anita McIntosh, as we learned in Episode 9? Maybe he upgraded the ring. According to EW, Patrick and Kacie have fought via proxy in interviews about that very topic.

“I didn’t want the ring back, it wasn’t about the ring,” he said. “I just wanted to ask her a simple question [about the status of their relationship]. And then she basically said a bunch of stuff about how I told her that she could keep the ring, and she told me that I was making it about the ring, and then I was like, ‘I’m not making it about the ring. I just want to be cool.’ And then she never texted me back.”

Do contestants get to pick the ring?

The show does leave the selection of the ring to the contestants. “They are involved with choosing the rings, but we give them a selection, we pay for the rings, and they pick something out that they feel like makes sense for them,” Coelen told EW. “How they decide to talk about that is up to them.”

Does Love Is Blind pay for the weddings?

Similar to the ring, the show will cover the cost of the wedding. Each season, art director and celebrity event stylist Slomique Hawrylo has a budget for five weddings that she divides between the couples.

While there’s no breakdown of how much a Love Is Blind wedding typically costs, there have been some details revealed over the years. In Season 4, florals cost anywhere from $50,000 to $60,000, while the show forked over $120,000 for a the tent for the ceremonies. The couple’s budget also allows for 80 to 100 guests in total.

If the couples want “particular things they really want that I wouldn’t know how to get,” Hawrylo said, then they’ll use their own cash. Tudum says that in the past, some of those extra costs were particular nail artists, photographers, or custom details for their ceremony like monograms.

“I design the same type of weddings I would do for celebrity clients,” Hawrylo told Tudum. “I don’t pull back [thinking], ‘Oh, they’re just everyday people.’ It’s not about that for me. What it’s about is, can I give them something new, fresh, breathtaking and a dream?”
