‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 1 Refresher: Where Noah & Joanne Left Off and More

[Warning: the following contains MAJOR spoilers for Season 1 of Nobody Wants This.]
The second that Kristen Bell and Adam Brody hit our screens as Joanne and “Hot Rabbi” Noah, it became clear that everyone wanted a second season of Netflix’s rom-com series, Nobody Wants This.
Season 1 of Nobody Wants This dropped on Netflix last September, instantly earning its spot in our Hottest TV Kisses of 2024 alongside romance heavy hitters like Bridgerton and Virgin River. Why? The people yearn for romance, and Noah and Joanne’s love story delivered one for the ages. Now, over a year later, everyone’s favorite wholesome rabbi and agnostic, jaded sex podcast host are back to remind everyone what true love really looks like. (No, really, take notes!)
Heading into the October 23 premiere of Nobody Wants This Season 2, we’re breaking down the Season 1 ending, explaining everything from Noah and Joanne’s relationship status to Sasha and Morgan’s unlikely friendship.

Are Noah and Joanne still together?
Yes, at the end of Season 1, Noah and Joanne are still together. However, a conversation with Noah’s ex-almost-fiancée, Rebecca (Emily Arlook), gives Joanne cold feet about becoming a Head Rabbi’s wife. When Joanne tries to break things off with Noah, he assures her that they can make things work. As Brody put it in a conversation with Netflix, Noah basically tells Joanne, “I put you first. Everything else will work itself out, but I’m saying that you are my priority.”
Did Joanne convert to Judaism?
While Noah would have loved to see Joanne convert to Judaism, for the sake of both his career and his faith, Joanne does not take that leap during Season 1. This causes major tension between Joanne and Noah’s mom, Bina (Tovah Feldshuh), as well as his sister-in-law, Esther (Jackie Tohn). At the same time, dating someone who isn’t Jewish is a major faux pas if Noah wants to move up in rank at his temple. This is definitely something to look out for during Season 2.

What’s going on between Sasha and Morgan?
Short answer: Technically, nothing.
Long answer: Definitely something. While Noah’s brother, Sasha (Timothy Simons) is married to Esther, he quickly bonds with Joanne’s sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe), as they are both the “loser sibling” in their family. During Season 1, this relationship never goes in a romantic direction, but it’s hard to ignore their chemistry.
Simons explained to Netflix that Sasha and Justine’s connection is clear, but whether it’s romantic or platonic is far more complicated. As he put it, “Even as it gets a little bit weirder between them, it does make sense that whatever loser sibling connection they have, that is a connection. It’s them trying to navigate what that connection really means or what is behind that. They can’t deny that there is one, but what’s underneath?” In Tohn’s opinion, “But from Esther’s point of view, the wheels are falling off.”
