Why Did Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert Split? Looking Back at Their Divorce
Before Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert were married to Gwen Stefani and Brendan McLoughlin, respectively, they were in a relationship for nearly a decade. The exes met in 2005 when they were both with other people, then started dating the following year after Shelton’s divorce from Kaynette Williams and the end of Lambert’s engagement to Jeff Allan McManus.
In 2010, The Road star popped the question, and the country singers tied the knot the following year. However, in June 2015, they announced they were divorcing.
“This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately,” the pair said in a joint statement. “We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
So, what exactly happened between them and why did they split? Scroll down for everything we know.
Why did Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert split?
When Shelton and Lambert first split, there were various rumors about why the marriage ended. A main theory was that the two did not agree about whether or not they wanted to have kids.
Shelton and Lambert themselves have not spoken out much about the reason for their divorce, but she did give some insight during a 2022 interview with the Los Angeles Times. Lambert noted that she and her ex-husband tied the knot right as his career was taking off on The Voice, and she said it was a “shock to my system” to have so much new publicly scrutiny surrounding their relationship.
“I’m a Scorpio, so I’m already very private and protective. And choosing the job I chose … I mean, I get on stage, I’m in front of people, but I didn’t choose random photos of moments when I wasn’t at work,” she explained, adding, “TMZ has tried to come to Nashville, like, three times, and we keep running them out. We’re like, ‘Nope, not here.'”
However, when Shelton was on The Voice the pair started spending more time in Los Angeles. “It taught me that Hollywood is not anything I want to be part of,” Lambert admitted.
Did Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert perform together in 2025?
In June 2025, a viral story began circulating that claimed Shelton and Lambert reunited to perform her song “Over You,” which he cowrote, at a charity event in Nashville. However, these clickbait stories appear to be a hoax, and there is no reputable source that has reported on them.
Where do Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert stand now?
Following their divorce, Shelton and Lambert said in separate interviews that they were still “friends” and “buddies.” They have both attended the same award shows many times in the years since their split, although they have not been seen interacting at any of them.
As time went on, there have been some public instances that seem to reveal Shelton and Lambert are no longer on the best of terms. At the 2019 ACM Awards, Lambert performed her song “Little Red Wagon” and changed the lyrics from, “I live in Oklahoma,” to, “I got the hell out of Oklahoma,” which is the state where Shelton lives. The “Honey Bee” singer was sitting in the audience at the time of the performance.
Meanwhile, in 2018, Lambert made headlines when her relationship with Anderson East ended, and it was rumored that she cheated on him with Evan Felker. As these stories went viral, Shelton tweeted, “Been taking the high road for a long time.. I almost gave up. But I can finally see something on the horizon up there!! Wait!! Could it be?! Yep!! It’s karma!!” Many fans speculated that this message was about his second ex-wife.
While the exes don’t seem to have any actual beef, they live completely separate lives with their new spouses.
