Gerry Turner‘s love from The Golden Bachelor didn’t last, but he’s now blissfully in love with fiancée Lana Sutton. Earlier this month, the two got engaged, and he detailed his romantic proposal in an interview with Swooon.
The couple confirmed their engagement news on Instagram with a series of beachside photos, but Turner revealed that he actually popped the question before they even made it to their coastal destination.
“We had a trip planned with a bunch of our pickleball friends to Myrtle Beach, [South Carolina],” he shared, adding that he proposed in Asheville, North Carolina, where they had stopped for an overnight stay.

“I practiced this magic trick that involved two Solo cups and some answers to questions that I perceived that I knew by ‘magic,'” Turner explained. “So I folded up some sticky notes and put them under the Solo cup and went through that routine. And the last sticky note was, ‘Will you marry me?’ She kind of blushed a little bit, a little bit of a surprise.”
However, Turner, who is releasing his book Golden Years: What I’ve Learned from Love, Loss, and Reality on November 4, said he’d made comments to Sutton in the past about marrying her one day, so it wasn’t until he pulled out his next trick that she knew it was the real deal. “As she read [the note], I lifted the other Solo cup and there was her ring,” he continued. “She was blown away. I was all jittery. It was pretty good.”
Turner admitted that the proposal didn’t come as a “total surprise” to his future wife because they had gone to a jeweler together to get an idea of what kind of ring she wanted.
Turner and Sutton started dating in March, nearly one year after he and Golden Bachelor winner Theresa Nist announced their split (they finalized their divorce in June 2024). The two met after Sutton messaged Turner on social media.
