While Tucker’s love story, based on Elle Kennedy’s The Goal, would most likely come during Season 4 of the series, we can’t help but take a deeper dive into Jalen Thomas Brooks, the actor who will bring him to life in the TV series. So, who is the 24-year-old actor? Where do we recognize him from? Find out all that and more below!
Who does Jalen Thomas Brooks play in Off Campus?
Brooks is set to portray Briar University hockey player John Tucker, who falls for Sabrina James in The Goal. While book aficionados will recognize Tucker as the apron-toting chef of the Briar U Hockey crew, if you’re new to the Off Campus universe, all you need to know is that Tucker is one of Season 1 lead Garrett’s besties, alongside The Mistake lead John Logan (yes, another John), portrayed by Antonio Cipriano, and The Score lead Dean Di Laurentis, portrayed by Stephen Kalyn.

We sure hope that Brooks has been working on his southern accent because Kennedy describes Tucker as a southern gentleman from Texas. During The Goal, a major life change (no spoilers here!) causes Tucker to step up his game off the ice and win Sabrina over in order to stay in her life. If there’s one thing Tucker can teach us, it’s that being a team player is just as important in life as it is in hockey.

What has Jalen Thomas Brooks been in before?
If the 24-year-old actor looks familiar, it’s probably because you were one of the millions of people who watched Noah Wyle‘s The Pitt this year. Brooks plays recurring character Mateo Diaz. During Season 1 of The Pitt, Mateo served as an ER nurse in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center’s emergency room, allowing Brooks to be in the heart of the action.

Where is Jalen Thomas Brooks from?
As much as we would love to say that Jalen Thomas Brooks is from Texas, just like Tucker, the actor grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada, after he was born in Los Angeles, California. In fact, Brooks shared in an interview that his first time visiting Texas was for his role in Walker. On his 24th birthday in October, Brooks posted a collection of pictures from his childhood, as seen below. To accompany the window into his past, he wrote, “Mamba year. Here’s to you, kid. Big love.”

Does Jalen Thomas Brooks play hockey?
Unlike Kalyn, Jalen Thomas Brooks does not have a background in hockey, having played basketball in high school instead. However, he eventually put down the ball to take on theater and acting instead. Thank goodness for that!
