What To Know
- Several of Rebecca Yarros’ popular romance novels are being adapted for film and television by major studios like Amazon MGM, Netflix, and more.
- Fourth Wing is currently in development at Prime Video.
- Yarros is heavily involved in the adaptations, serving as an executive producer on all projects.
Rebecca Yarros is on her way to becoming the next Colleen Hoover of book-to-screen adaptations. The romance author has almost two dozen books under her belt, including her uber-popular Fourth Wing romantasy series. Since that series took off in early 2023, studios have naturally started snapping up more Yarros titles.
This year alone, three of the author’s love stories have been announced to be getting the adaptation treatment. We don’t blame you if you’ve lost track of which ones are becoming movies or TV shows — that’s exactly why Swooon has put everything you need to know all in one place.
Keep reading for all of the details we know so far about the adaptations of Fourth Wing, The Last Letter, and more.
Fourth Wing
Release date: TBD
BookTok-favorite romantasy Fourth Wing is well on its way to becoming a TV show. It’s already in development after the adaptation was announced in October 2023, mere months after the book’s release. Michael B. Jordan‘s Outlier Society production company is attached, as well as Amazon MGM Studios.
Yarros has already read two versions of the script, per a fan-captured video. Writer Moira Walley-Beckett was tapped to executive produce and serve as showrunner, but she left the project in July 2025. Wednesday Season 2 executive producer Meredith Averill will take over as Fourth Wing’s showrunner. Casting hasn’t been revealed just yet, but we’ve got some ideas!
For those that haven’t yet been acquainted with Yarros’ Empyrean series, Fourth Wing is set at the fictional Basgiath War College, which trains healers, scribes, infantry, and dragon riders. Violet Sorrengail, thinking she would be a scribe, is forced into the deadly riders quadrant to begin her harrowing training, where she meets the mysterious Xaden Riorson.
In the Likely Event
Release date: TBD
Earlier this year, Netflix revealed that it was producing Yarros’ love story about a U.S. soldier and a congressional aide. Nate and Izzy form an instant connection during a flight, but after their plane crashes into the Missouri River, they’re changed forever and are pulled in different directions.
Lindsey Ferrentino, who’s been tapped to write five movies for the streamer, has come up with In the Likely Event‘s script. “It’s such a special book to me, and I can’t wait to see Nate and Izzy brought to the screen by such a thoughtful and passionate team of creators!” Yarros, who doubles as an executive producer, wrote on Instagram. “Gratitude isn’t a big enough word for how this feels!”There’s no casting or release date news yet, but Yarros did confirm in August 2025 that the script was complete.
The Things We Leave Unfinished
Release date: TBD
Lionsgate snagged the rights to Yarros’ 2021 novel The Things We Leave Unfinished, making it the third book of hers to get the adaptation green light. The production team — which includes Yarros as an executive producer — has already been announced, per Deadline. Arash Amel (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) is writing the script.
“Out of all the books I’ve written, this one is my absolute favorite and it’s in spectacular hands with the talented @thearashamel in the writer’s chair!” Yarros wrote on Instagram in July 2025. “I couldn’t be more thankful for his enthusiasm and respect for the story you all love! He’s championed this adaptation from the beginning and is such a gem!”
The book follows 28-year-old Georgia Stanton, who heads home after a public divorce. There, she teams up with a bestselling author to finish her late great-grandmother’s WWII love story. Along the way, they discover secrets that complicate the past and the present.
There’s no word yet on when the movie will arrive in theaters or who will star and direct, but check back for updates!
The Last Letter
Release date: TBD
The fourth Yarros adaptation to be announced is 2019’s The Last Letter. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Amazon MGM picked up the rights to the rom-dram in November 2025, following an “intense” bidding war. There’s no information yet about who will star and direct, but there are some details about the team behind the film.
Screenwriter Anna Klassen, who recently wrote the upcoming adaptation of Anna Todd’s The Last Sunrise, will pen the script, and Yarros will executive produce this adaptation, too. “I wrote/bled this book seven years ago, and to see this happen has been by far the greatest and most humbling moment of my career,” the author said on Instagram.
The Last Letter tells the story of an army vet, Beckett, who is set on fulfilling his promise to a fallen soldier and friend — to help take care of his sister, Ella, and her two children. Beckett and Ella were pen pals before her brother died in action, and when he moves to her town, Beckett doesn’t tell Ella that he was behind the letters.
