Get ready to get your Spanish summer romance on. The Last Sunrise, a movie adaptation of After author Anna Todd‘s 2025 standalone novel, will make a splash on Prime Video before the season’s over. Based on the newly released trailer, we can expect Ry (Maia Reficco) and Julián (Tell Me Softly‘s Fernando Lindez) to bring equal amounts of heat and drama during their whirlwind romance.
Ry and Julián fall in love when the former escapes to Mallorca, Spain, for the summer. The local Julián helps Ry learn to embrace living in the moment while she hides her worsening chronic illness and family secrets. When does The Last Sunrise come out?
Prime Video revealed that The Last Sunrise will arrive on August 26. The movie drops a little over a year after the book was published in May 2025. Prime Video picked it up before it even came out. Todd served as a producer on the movie while writing the novel.
“I can’t wait to see you next summer,” Lindez teased in a video posted to his account when the film wrapped in September 2025.

What is The Last Sunrise about?
Todd’s book follows 22-year-old Ry, who finds her life transformed when she moves to Majorca, Spain, for the summer. Until that point, she felt like she’d been waiting for her life to begin while managing her chronic illness and an overprotective mom.

Deciding to kickstart her story, she heads to the beach on her own, where she meets a confident local named Julian. As they go on adventures together, he brings Ry out of her shell. As the end of summer nears, she has to decide whether to follow her heart or return to America.
Reficco told EW that the film was “equally as fulfilling creatively as it was personally; everything one can dream of when it comes to a job.” She added, “I’m looking forward to sharing something we all so lovingly made together with the world, especially showcasing the gorgeous island of Majorca and a character with the complexity and life experience that Ry has.”

Who has been cast in The Last Sunrise?
Reficco plays Ry, and Lindez (who also starred in the final seasons of Netflix’s Elite) will appear opposite her as Julián. “Casting a Spanish actor wasn’t just important, it was essential,” Todd wrote on Instagram. “Fernando Lindez doesn’t just play Julián, he understands him — his pride, his history, his unshakable connection to home.”

Eva Longoria signed on to play Ry’s mom, Isolde. “When I first started writing The Last Sunrise, I saw Isolde so clearly — elegant, sharp, the kind of woman who could walk into a room and change everything without saying a word. That’s Eva Longoria,” Todd captioned an Instagram post. “Having her play Isolde feels like something I dreamed up years ago and somehow made real.”
“What I love most about The Last Sunrise is that it’s a beautiful summer romance with a deeper message about living in the moment,” Longoria told EW. “At its heart, it’s about love, self-discovery, and finding joy even in uncertain times.”
Andrés Velencoso will bring Mateo, Isolde’s old flame, to life. Todd said, “Andrés Velasco steps into the role of Mateo, a man whose story is tied to Ry’s in ways she hasn’t uncovered yet, adding layers of quiet intensity to the film.”

Chloé Sweetlove rounds out the cast as Ry’s new friend, Amara. “Amara has always been one of my favorite characters — the kind of friend who changes everything just by showing up,” Todd wrote on Instagram to announce the character’s casting. “Chloé Sweetlove brings that energy so beautifully, and from the very first moment, you’ll feel why she and Ry connect so deeply.”

Who is making The Last Sunrise?
Remember Upgraded, the Prime Video rom-com starring Riverdale actress Camila Mendes? Its director, Carlson Young, is helming The Last Sunrise.
Anna Klassen adapted the script (it’s her first full-length feature film), and the production team includes Todd, Ethea Entertainment’s Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, Luber Roklin Entertainment’s Lena Roklin, and Pitt Street’s Brian Pitt. The latter worked on the After movies with Todd.
