Mel Owens and Peg Munson chose one another during The Golden Bachelor finale and were on the same page about not wanting to rush a proposal. Instead, Owens gave Munson a ring that was meant to symbolize his commitment to her moving forward.
Both Owens, 66, and Munson, 62, are divorced, but is another wedding in their future? They opened up to Swooon about their future plans.
The couple agreed that they are “100%” open to getting married if their relationship grows in the way they are hoping. “Of course,” Owens said. Munson also revealed that they “talked about” marriage during their overnight date.
“We’re basically on the same page, the same wavelength,” she confirmed. “We have a lot of the same ideas and a lot of the same beliefs around that. We’re continuing to write our own love story. That’s what you get to do when you’re in your golden years, in your 60s. It’s our prerogative to do that.”
The fantasy suite was also where Owens and the retired firefighter agreed they were on the same page about not wanting an engagement on the show. “We talked about marriage, proposals, kids,” she shared. “How are we going to blend our family together? What is this going to look like for him? What is it going to look like for me? And a lot of those questions were answered, so we kind of hashed it all out.”
Owens noted that he and Munson were able to talk “candidly” and “without being guarded” when the cameras weren’t around. “She was always honest,” he admitted. “Sometimes you’re guarded when the cameras are around and people are listening, and some things you want to have remain a secret or in confidence. So that was a time where we figured things out.”
Right now, Owens is living in California, and Munson is in Las Vegas, and there are currently no plans to relocate. “You know what’s nice? Here’s the thing to think about it. We get to live in the ‘and,'” Munson said. “When you’re in your 60s and you’ve already had the marriage and the kids and the houses and the cars and the careers, you get to do the ‘and’ now. You live in the ‘and.’ AND his house. AND my house.”
Munson said being able to live freely is why she and Owens worked so hard for so many years. “You get that freedom to get to do what you want to do,” she gushed. “We’re lucky enough to be able to do that.”
They’ll also have to start to work on blending their families, as Owens has two sons from his first marriage, and Munson has a daughter from hers. “They met each other for the first time at the finale last night,” Munson dished (one of Owens’ sons was not in attendance, as she was signing his contract for a college baseball scholarship).
