- Ben called Erin his “one and only” love.
Seventeen years ago, Erin and Ben Napier said “I do.” Together, they have become one of the most beloved HGTV couples.
On November 22, Erin and Ben penned deeply personal messages in honor of their anniversary. Erin included photos from her and Ben’s wedding day and snapshots of their life together to accompany her tribute.
“Today I have been married to @scotsman.co for 17 years,” Erin began in her Instagram note. “Do you know what it’s like to be married to him? I would like to write it down for myself and the girls to know: it is all encompassing delight. He delights in delighting, always everywhere, it is his first instinct. He is huge, the way he gives and loves and plays and talks. He is dripping with goodness, with LOVE. He fixes it all. Broken necklaces, Barbies, hearts. He picks the mood up, he tells the long story.
She continued, “He protects and treasures me so clearly I never, ever, wonder his intentions. My God has been so good to let us grow up together, to let me be positively ruined and spoiled by Ben Napier.”

Ben shared a series of photos, including ones with their two daughters, Mae and Helen, and wrote. “Happy 17th anniversary to my one and only!! The traditional gift is furniture so I designed a bunch of really cool upholstered furniture with the Best in the Biz for you.”
His collection of photos also featured stills from the 1993 film So I Married an Axe Murderer, specifically of Mike Myers and Brenda Fricker as Stuart and May MacKenzie. Erin commented on Ben’s post, “We can only aspire to be so in love as may and stuart mackenzie.”
The Home Town couple met over 20 years ago when they were both in junior college. Erin interviewed Ben for the school newspaper, and the rest is history.
Erin opened up about the secret to her happy marriage in an interview on The Heirloom podcast. “I don’t let myself tell stories about him,” she explained. “I just say it. I say it right to him. ‘Are you doing this? Are you thinking that?’ And he says right back to me what he’s really doing and thinking. We’re together all day, so it’s very easy for us to do that, but our communication level cuts out my creativity in a very good, positive way.”
