Let’s start with Takeuchi, who’s playing Shinya Suzuki. Focused and intense, he’s a perfectionist who dominates the local Latin dance scene. When his longtime rival approaches him with an offer to partner up for a competition, Suzuki initially rejects him.
Said rival is Shinya Sugiki — their names are similar by design — and he’s played by Machida. Sugiki is the Japanese champion in standard ballroom dancing, ranked second in the world. Eventually, Suzuki comes around when he realizes that they’re each other’s best bet at winning the 10-Dance Competition, which involves performing in both of their preferred styles.
What have Ryoma Takeuchi and Keita Machida been in before?
Takeuchi, who doubles as a model, saw his career take off when he got the starring role in sci-fi series Kamen Rider Drive in 2014. Since then, the 32-year-old actor has also become known for the apocalypse drama Love You as the World Ends and Prime Video’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza. He’s making his Netflix debut with 10DANCE.

Machida, on the other hand, is a Netflix regular. The 35-year-old has acted in the streamer’s sci-fi series Alice in Borderland and musical drama Glass Heart. He’s also no stranger to the gay romance genre after starring in 2022’s Cherry Magic! movie.

Takeuchi isn’t known to be dating anyone currently. His most recent public relationship was with Miyoshi Ayaka from Alice in Borderland. After costarring in 2018’s Rikuoh, they were confirmed to be dating two years later, per Lifestyle Asia Hong Kong. The outlet reported that they split in 2024.
His costar is married to another Alice in Borderland star. In 2022, Machida announced that he’d tied the knot with Korean actress Hyunri, whom he met on the set of 2017’s Cinema Fighters. “After costarring in a movie, we started to spend our days as reassuring partners who support each other, and we have been dating on the premise of marriage,” he wrote in an Instagram Story, per Cinema Online. “From now on, we will work together to build a better future, and to become better people and actors.”

Both actors underwent months of intensive training for their roles, but only Machida has dancing experience. In a 2014 interview, the actor said that he was in a dance club at university, where a professional dancer approached him and offered him a scholarship to a dance and acting school. From there, he joined a Japanese theater troupe called Gekidan EXILE, focusing on acting over dance.
