Bobby Berk is about to begin a new venture on HGTV with his series Junk or Jackpot?, which premieres on Friday, December 26. The show features the former Queer Eye star helping people “discover the hidden monetary value of their massive and unusual collections,” according to a description.
The interior designer has been a public figure for years, sharing both his professional and personal life with fans. That includes his relationship with husband Dewey Do, whom he married in 2012. Scroll down to learn more about Do and the pair’s relationship.
What does Bobby Berk’s husband do for a living?
Do is a maxillofacial surgeon, a “specialized medical field that diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and defects in the head, neck, face, and jaws, including the hard and soft tissues of this region,” according to the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Maxillofacial surgeons specialize in procedures including dental implants and reconstructive surgery, facial trauma repair, and corrective jaw surgery.
How did Bobby Berk meet his husband?
Berk and Do met online in 2004, but they weren’t always honest about their origin story. “Back in the day, we would say we met at Starbucks because we met online,” Berk shared on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “Twenty years ago it was, like, weird to meet people online. We’d say we met at Starbucks or a bar.”
He joked, “I don’t think it was quite dial-up, but almost.”
The couple tied the knot in 2012 “as soon as it was legal” for them to get married, Berk shared in a 2018 Facebook post. They were married by a “very close friend of [theirs] who was ordained.”
However, Berk told People that the marriage almost wasn’t legal, as the officiant “never sent in the correct paperwork.” It wasn’t until the end of 2012 that Berk and Do questioned why they never received their marriage certificate.
“We had to frantically run to the courthouse in downtown New York City to get married before the end of the year to make sure our taxes were filed properly,” the designer revealed.
Do Bobby Berk and his husband have kids?
Berk and his husband do not have children and are choosing to remain child-free.
“We have decided it’s not for us,” Berk told People. “I mean, in this day and age — and this is not to knock anybody’s decision to have or not have kids — but for me, I would just have a hard time bringing any child into the world right now.”
He also said he doesn’t “have enough time” to devote to parenting. This was a change of tune from Berk’s 2019 interview with People, where he said that kids were part of his and Do’s “five-year plan.” At the time, Berk said he was waiting for his busy schedule to calm down before welcoming a child, but that still has not happened.
The couple has a dog named Bimini, a mini Labradoodle.
Do Bobby Berk and his husband live in Portugal?
Berk and Do have been living in Portugal part-time since 2023, splitting their time between the European country and Los Angeles. They moved to Los Angeles from New York in 2018.
“We went to Portugal, and we fell in love with Portugal, and we decided to live in Portugal part-time,” Berk explained on The Jennifer Hudson Show. “We live in this little village. The village just celebrates its 250th year, so it’s a young village for Europe.”
The village, Algarve, is “down on the southern coast,” Berk added. “It’s just nice. It’s so quaint. The food, the people. The thing I love about Portugal is everything’s so natural. The food is so natural. We ate sweets and bread every single day and didn’t gain a pound.”
