What To Know

  • Anthony and Kate are absent from the Bridgerton Season 4 trailer and masquerade ball scenes.
  • Author Julia Quinn has explained why the couple won’t appear at the masquerade.
  • Find out if Simone Ashley (Kate) and Jonathan Bailey (Anthony) are confirmed to reprise their roles in Season 4.

Though Bridgerton Season 4 is centered around Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) romance with maid Sophie (Yerin Ha), that doesn’t mean that its side characters will fade into the background. The trailer revealed that, as per usual, fans will also get updates on the other Bridgerton couples. It offers a few looks at Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin’s (Luke Newton) married life, as well as Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) relationship with John (Victor Alli). But one pairing is notably absent.

Season 2 leads Kate (Simone Ashley) and Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) don’t show up in the trailer or the newly released stills of the Bridgerton family’s masquerade ball, where Benedict and Sophie meet for the first time. When Julia Quinn, the author of the book series that the show is based on, shared the photos on her Instagram, quite a few fans took to the comments to question Kate and Anthony’s whereabouts. After all, it’s not unusual for Bridgerton cast members to step away from the show, as is the case with Season 1’s Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon (Regé-Jean Page).

Quinn has given some insight into Kate and Anthony’s lack of presence in the Season 4 first looks. Find out what she said — and if the couple will appear in Season 4 at all — below.

Are Anthony and Kate in Bridgerton Season 4?

Don’t fret, Kanthony fans. While the viscount and viscountess do miss out on that major masquerade sequence, which is a departure from Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman, they’re confirmed to appear at some point in Season 4. Quinn explained in her Instagram comments that Kate and Anthony are still in India when the ball takes place. Remember, in Season 3’s Episode 7, Anthony explains his desire for a pregnant Kate to have their baby in India. He wants to learn about Kate’s history so that they can share it with their child together. They depart from Mayfair shortly after.

Ashley has been confirmed for Season 4, as has her onscreen husband. Bailey has also spoken out about his return to the show since Season 4 was announced. He even went as far as to say that he doesn’t plan on to stepping out of Anthony Bridgerton’s shoes anytime soon. “I know how much I love long-running series,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I know how important familiarity of character and story and consistency is in these long-running series.”

In the same interview, he also revealed that he filmed a wedding with his castmates. Whether or not that’ll be the first time Anthony and Kate appear in Season 4 remains to be seen — there’s always a chance that the show will give fans a glimpse of the new parents’ life in India.
