What To Know

  • Heated Rivalry‘s Hudson Williams revealed that he’s most excited to film the trophy room scene in Season 2.
  • It’s a highlight from author Rachel Reid’s sequel book about Shane and Ilya, The Long Game.
  • Reid confirmed the scene will be adapted in Season 2.

It’s official: The trophy room scene is coming in Heated Rivalry Season 2. Those words might not mean anything to you if you haven’t read author Rachel Reid’s books about Shane (Hudson Williams) and Ilya’s (Connor Storrie) romance — specifically, her sequel to Heated Rivalry called The Long Game. But if you guessed that it has to do with Shane and Ilya getting it on in front of Shane’s many cups and medals, you would be correct. Gold star for you.

You might’ve already assumed it was that type of moment when Williams said that he was most looking forward to adapting said scene in Season 2. “If you know, you know,” the actor teased The Cut, smirking at the camera. As you know well by now, Heated Rivalry doesn’t hold back when it comes to steam, and the trophy room scene is objectively Shane and Ilya’s hottest so far. (A high bar to clear.)

Until March 8, fans weren’t 100% sure that the trophy room scene would make it into Season 2. However, at an event in London, Reid assured fans that she didn’t have to fight for it to be included in the second season because the team is eager to film it. You may be curious why the trophy room scene is so hyped up by readers (and the actors) if you haven’t had a chance to crack open The Long Game yet. Get ready to fan yourself, because Swooon is breaking down every single detail of the trophy room scene below.

(Warning: The below contains spoilers for The Long Game by Rachel Reid.)

What is the trophy room scene in Heated Rivalry?

First, some context. Shane’s best friend Hayden (Callan Potter) accidentally outs Shane and Ilya. He records a “FanMail” video for a fan and sends it off, not noticing that it caught Shane and Ilya kissing in the background. It doesn’t take long for the video to spread like wildfire.

Once their relationship becomes public knowledge, Shane and Ilya react differently. Shane’s not handling it well, and his confidence takes a hit when the majority of his team in Montreal reacts negatively. Shane’s also nervous about his and Ilya’s upcoming meeting with the slimy NHL commissioner. Ilya dutifully fulfills his boyfriend’s request when he asks him to make him forget about everything that’s going on.

At first, Shane objects to Ilya leading him into his trophy room, but it doesn’t take much convincing to get him on board. Surrounded by Shane’s Stanley Cups and rings, Olympic jerseys and medals, and more mementos from his career, Ilya bends Shane over a chair — why there’s a chair in there, we aren’t sure — as he sets out to remind him “of who the f**k he is.”

Before they get too far, Ilya leaves the room to grab some supplies: lube and, in a moment of divine inspiration, a vibrating c**k ringHe takes his time so that Shane can take in his proudest achievements for a little while longer. After putting the toy in place, Ilya wonders which trophy is Shane’s favorite — Rookie of the Year, Shane cheekily replies, which he won over his boyfriend — before they go all the way. Shane loses all inhibitions as Ilya absolutely wrecks him.

“I feel like I am f**king a king right now,” Ilya says. “You are Shane f**king Hollander. If you ever forget that, I will drag you back in here and f**k you until you remember.” Together, they’ll build an empire, he says. They both don’t last much longer after that. Naturally, the chair is totally ruined in the aftermath. (But Shane would probably agree it was worth it.)

The trophy room scene is not only Shane and Ilya’s steamiest moment in both of their books, but it’s also their final one in the sequel. (Talk about going out with a bang.) Now that we know Reid is writing a third book about the couple, we’ll have to wait and see if she can top the trophy room scene. Maybe we’ll get a reprise, now that Shane and Ilya are likely sharing a trophy room. We’re manifesting it.
