It’s nearly time for Bridgerton‘s social season to commence as Season 4 of Netflix‘s hit romantic drama nears, and star Hannah Dodd is giving us a peek behind the curtain as she previews the highly anticipated masquerade ball.
Thrown by Lady Violet Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell), the event brings together her second-eldest son, Benedict (Luke Thompson), and his true love, Sophie (Yerin Ha), who is known only to him as the Lady in Silver, when they make their fateful encounter. But it wouldn’t be a Bridgerton soiree without the family in attendance, including Francesca (Dodd) and her husband, John (Victor Alli).
“The masquerade was so much fun because it was really close to the beginning of filming, so it’s such a nice bonding experience for all of the new cast as well,” Dodd gushes. “We got to really spend a lot of time [together] because balls take about two weeks to film anyway.”

While the pivotal event may revolve mostly around Benedict and Sophie’s meet-cute, that doesn’t mean that fans won’t get their fill of other character moments, as the other members of the Bridgerton family and friends occupy the enchanting space.
Part of the bonding experience was uncovering what everyone was wearing, as Dodd explains, “The costume department — I don’t know whether it was on purpose — because it was at the beginning of the shoot, a lot of us didn’t know what each other was wearing, so it was a really nice reveal moment early on in the shoot and we got to see everybody’s costumes and everybody’s masks and how different they all were and how relevant they were to each other’s characters.”
Dodd commends the costume designers, saying, “I think costume did such an amazing job, and it really was magical the first time you stepped onto that set because that was a brand new set. [It was] so beautiful, and I think every department put their all into that… I really hope people enjoy it.”
As for the costume she loved most, Dodd admits she can’t really pick Francesca for that answer, “I love the costume department with my whole heart, but Francesca didn’t really dress up — devastated. So, I loved Nicola’s pirate look, although it was so confusing seeing her with blonde hair. Knowing Nicola with blonde hair and Penelope as a redhead, it was really jarring having a blonde Nicola on set.”
Dodd also enjoyed her onscreen sister, Claudia Jessie‘s look as Eloise channels her inner Joan of Arc. “She was really, really, really excited about her boots. I just remember her boots a lot, but I think everybody looked really, really cool.” Dodd also notes, “I think Emma’s costume [as Cleopatra] was really cool as well, and obviously Yerin looked like a princess.”
