The rumor mill is swirling about Megan Moroney and Riley Green once again. More than a year after dating rumors about the country singers first swirled, Moroney released a new song called “Wish I Didn’t,” and fans think it could be about the early stages of her time spent with Green.
“Consider this your warning, you’ve got one shot to listen, I think I’m falling for you, don’t make me wish I didn’t,” Moroney sings in the chorus. Scroll down for more about the song, her relationship with Green, and more.
Is Megan Moroney’s ‘Wish I Didn’t’ about Riley Green?
Moroney famously does not reveal who her songs are about. However, fans are convinced that Green is the subject of this particular track.
The biggest piece of fans’ evidence is the lyric, “You show up, and you’ve got all the right things to say. It’s all sunshine and blue skies, but I can also make it rain.” Green has a song called “Make It Rain” that came out in 2024.
Before dropping the full song, Moroney also featured a teaser video of herself singing the first verse while holding a pair of sunglasses, and right at the “make it rain” lyric, she put the glasses on. Some fans thought this could potentially be referencing a photo Green posted in 2024 that went viral. The image in question (which was later deleted) featured Green wearing a pair of sunglasses on vacation, and fans thought they saw Moroney in the glasses’ reflection, which is what initially sparked the dating rumors.
While the exact subject of “Wish I Didn’t” is unclear, Moroney has confirmed that her upcoming album Cloud 9 is about “honest, personal experiences.” As she explained, “These songs were written by the strongest, most confident version of myself I’ve ever been.”
Moroney recently teased one particular track from the album called “Who Hurt You?” that she thinks will answer a lot of questions about her personal life. “Bar for bar, didn’t lie, said everything so that I don’t have to answer interview questions about the situation,” she said. “Here’s my piece and there’s no need to ask me any questions about it because I told you what I needed to say. … Like, have you heard the song? There should be no further questions.”
Fans are convinced this one will also be about the situation with Green, including rumors of a love triangle between him, Moroney, and Ella Langley.
Did Megan Moroney and Riley Green date?
Moroney and Green have denied rumors of a romance. Speculation about their relationship began when they were both vacationing in St. Barts in December 2024.
“He was individually on vacation with his friends,” Moroney told Rolling Stone in March 2025. “St. Barts is a popular place!” While she confirmed that the two met up on their respective trips, she added, “Just because we’re hanging out doesn’t mean we’re romantically dating.”
Green also said on the In the Blind podcast that month that he was “single.”
However, two months later, the duo was seen at the airport together after separately attending the ACM Awards. Fans also spotted them in Green’s Alabama hometown later that month.
Is Megan Moroney dating Dylan Efron?
Moroney’s video for “Wish I Didn’t” features Dylan Efron acting opposite her as the leading male, but this was strictly a professional venture. Efron has been dating his girlfriend, Courtney King, for years.
In the Mr. & Mrs. Smith-themed video Efron and Moroney play a married couple who are preparing to turn on each other. The footage culminates in an epic fight scene, only for them to realize they’re being played by someone else. This marked Efron’s first acting role.
