For the first time in nearly 20 years, Hilary Duff hit the stage on Monday, January 19, to headline a live concert. In addition to playing some of her biggest hits, including “Come Clean” and “What Dreams Are Made Of,” Hilary also performed tracks from her upcoming album, Luck… Or Something.

One song that had the audience in London buzzing is called “We Don’t Talk.” The track appears to sample Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” and many are speculating that it’s about her rumored drama with her older sister, Haylie Duff.

Scroll down for everything we know about the song, Hilary and Haylie’s relationship, and more.

What happened between Hilary and Haylie Duff?

Hilary and Haylie Duff grew up close. They’re less than three years apart and have even worked together professionally in the past. However, the two have not been photographed together publicly since 2019 and do not interact on social media, which has led to speculation of a feud between them.

In 2021, Haylie moved to Texas, which added fuel to the rumors of a falling out. The sisters have not flat-out addressed the situation, but some unconfirmed fan theories are that they have different political views and that Hilary’s husband, Matthew Koma, does not get along with Haylie.

Hilary subtly referenced the chatter in a November 2025 interview with Rolling Stone, where she opened up about her new music. “I have this crazy connection with fans that I’ve known since I was 9, 10 years old, and I just want to connect with them again,” she shared. “We have gone through a lot of the same things — whether that’s complicated relationships, anxiety, raising kids, divorces, trying to find yourself in adulthood, family drama … Finally, I felt safe enough and comfortable in my own family to step outside and open that part of myself up again.”

The mention of “family drama” was an apparent nod to the situation with Haylie.

Meanwhile, Haylie reportedly “liked” Ashley Tisdale‘s Instagram post about leaving her “toxic mom group” in January 2026. Ashley was once in a friend group with Hilary, Mandy Moore, Meghan Trainor, and more, so there’s been speculation that she was referring to them in her post, although Ashley’s rep denied those rumors.

Is Hilary Duff’s ‘We Don’t Talk’ about Haylie Duff?

Hilary debuted her song that’s seemingly about “family drama” at her January 19 London concert. She did not share the inspiration behind “We Don’t Talk” before performing it, but fans have noticed that the lyrics are about a fractured relationship.

“Don’t know when it happened, not even sure what it was about, ’cause we come from the same home, same blood,” she sings.

In the chorus, she repeats the lyrics, “We don’t talk, we don’t talk about it. We don’t talk about anything anymore.” She also references “jealousy” in the second verse, telling the song’s subject, “God knows I would sell it all, then break you off the bigger half.”

By the end of the song, Hilary makes it clear that she wants this drama to be over. “Let’s have it out, I’ll hear you out, you’ll hear me out on the couch. Get back to how we were as kids,” she says. “Let’s break it down, so sick of being sad about, how we don’t talk and you won’t talk about it.”

Does Hilary Duff have a relationship with sister Haylie Duff?

Hilary and Haylie do not appear to currently have a relationship with one another. However, based on Hilary’s song lyrics, she’s willing to hash things out and try to get back to a good place with her sister.

While speaking with TV Insider in 2025, Haylie also hinted that she’d be willing to smooth things over. Regarding whether she’d ever work with Hilary on another project in the future, she admitted, “Look, never say never. I think we both needed to go and find our own way, but never say never.”
