Evan (Branden Cook) didn’t join Bree (Cat Missal) on her quest to reconnect with her mom (Emily Meade), and now he’s playing catch-up. In Swooon’s exclusive preview of the February 3 episode of Tell Me Lies, Evan wants Bree to fill him in on what happened with her mom — and why he’s been kept in the dark about it.
“I’m just trying to figure out why you didn’t tell me,” Evan tells Bree as they walk home, with Wrigley (Spencer House) a short distance behind them. “Because… I was worried it was going to be a sh*tshow,” Bree replies.
Bree explains that her brunch meet-up with her mom wasn’t exactly normal, but it didn’t go off the rails. When Bree mentions they had mimosas, Evan brings up her mom’s alcoholic past. Bree points out that her mom’s not an alcoholic anymore.
“That’s not how that works,” a frustrated Evan says. “Why are you being like this?” Bree asks, before turning and catching a glimpse of Wrigley. “Why can’t you just be more supportive?”
Evan replies, “Look, if you’re saying it was good with her, I’m glad. But even if it wasn’t, I’m the person you should talk to about it, whether it went well or not.” A concerned Wrigley doesn’t say a word, but he’s clearly waiting for Bree to respond. All she does is walk away from Evan.
In the previous episode, Wrigley supported Bree on her journey to meet up with her mom. Wrigley needed to get off of Baird’s campus, and he gave Bree the space she needed on the trip. On their way home, Bree admitted that she’d never learned how to swim because she’d been in and out of foster care growing up.
Wrigley attempted to remedy that by teaching her to swim in the deep end. Bree and Wrigley almost kissed, but he pulled away and swam off before diving into their feelings. With her relationship with Evan on edge, could this bring Wrigley and Bree even closer in the college timeline?
