Happy Valentine’s Day, Tell Me Lies fans. And a very special shoutout to the Brigley shippers. The February 3 episode started out in a rough spot for Bree (Cat Missal) and Wrigley (Spencer House), but by the time the credits rolled, lives had been changed.

But let’s rewind a bit. The crew all assembles for a Goth Valentine’s Day party at a frat house. Stephen’s (Jackson White) new victim, Tegan (Bianca Nugara), gathers everyone to play a game of Paranoia, which causes even more chaos. During the game, Bree has to answer who among the group is “most likely to kill themselves,” and she says… Wrigley.

Swooon spoke with Cat Missal and Spencer House about the February 3 episode for the latest edition of our Tell Me Lies Aftershow and brought up the Paranoia drama. Was Bree really just joking or trying to hurt Wrigley (and deflect her feelings for him)?

“I think Bree is well-intentioned,” Missal said. “At that point, I don’t think she was trying to hurt him. I genuinely think she made a mistake.” House brought up how the response stemmed from Bree and Wrigley joking around in photography class. “That’s the way that they had connected in the past, and I think she was like throwing him a bone” after their near-kiss in the previous episode.

Bree immediately apologizes to Wrigley and begins venting about all the stressors in her life. Wrigley gets annoyed that Bree is telling him all this instead of Evan (Branden Cook), her boyfriend. Later, Evan and Bree fight about her mom, and he asks Wrigley to walk Bree home. Wrigley’s frustration boils over about everything, from Bree not confronting Oliver (Tom Ellis) to girls still dating Stephen. He thinks Pippa (Sonia Mena) is the only person being honest (she’s not), and that he’s taking her for granted by spending too much time with Bree.

Wrigley walks away from Bree, which leads her to Oliver’s house. Oliver’s not home, but Marianne (Gabriella Pession) is, and they have a heart-to-heart. Marianne tells Bree that it’s “better to be with someone who loves you a little more than you love them,” which Missal said haunts Bree well beyond the college timeline.

“I think those words ring in her mind when she decides to go back to Evan, even. Obviously, Wrigley does something that hurts her, and she feels like she’s got no one else, but also, she knows that Evan will love her if she chooses to be with him,” Missal explained.

The next morning, Bree is sitting outside Oliver’s house when Wrigley walks up. “I’m sorry. I didn’t know who else to call because I wanted to talk to you. Because you, you make things better, and it’s confusing. I think you’re making me kind of confused about how I feel,” Bree admits to Wrigley.

Wrigley tells Bree to stop apologizing, and he brings her into his arms. This moment changes everything for Bree and Wrigley. After denying their growing feelings, they finally kiss.

“I felt like it was earned,” House told Swooon, and Missal agreed. Missal also brought up the fact that this kiss has been building for quite some time, even in moments that we don’t see. “I think that there’s moments that happen off-screen,” Missal said. “You know, we’re in photography class. There’s other moments. I think, for us, [it was] just making sure that was a really gratifying moment.”
