[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Love Is Blind Season 1o, Episodes 1-6.]
While many of the Love Is Blind Season 10 ladies stood out from the crowd during Episodes 1-6, one Pod Squad member from Ohio specifically caught our eye: Emma Betsinger.
With a personal connection to the social experiment, Emma entered the pods looking forward to dating without looks coming into play. There, she formed strong connections with three guys. Having been adopted herself, Emma shared deep conversations about parenting, adoption, and more with the guys in the pods, explaining that she is not 100% where she lands on wanting kids.
After the first six-episode drop, Emma sat down with Swooon, revealing that she was actively watching Love Is Blind when she received a DM from casting asking if she would be interested in applying for the show.
Now that Emma and her connection have made it out of the pods, we’re doing a deep dive into the Pod Squad standout, her connections into the pods, surgeries, and more!
What does Emma Betsinger do for a living?
The 28-year-old, who is originally from Minnesota, is a retail merchandiser. She works for Abercrombie & Fitch, according to her LinkedIn. “Having moved to Ohio for her job, Emma is proud of the community she’s created. Through a 200-hour yoga teacher training and the launch of her own food Instagram account, Emma has connected with plenty of new friends,” her Netflix bio reads. She also revealed during Episode 1 that she used to dance for 12 years. In college, she “taught senior citizens hip hop and dance fitness.” She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Why did Emma Betsinger have surgery?
“I’m adopted into a White family from China. I also had over 10 surgeries to get rid of a birthmark that would have caused melanoma. So my whole life has been thinking about the physical aspect,” Emma explained. According to Emma, she is excited about dating sight unseen, as this is the first time she will be judged based on her personality.
Who did Emma date in the pods?
Emma dated finance bro Steven Sunday, dumpster salesman Connor Spies, and sales manager Mike Gibney. While her connection with Steven seemed strong at first, once she opened up to him about her childhood, his reactions rubbed her the wrong way. After calling things off with Steven, she recapped their split to the rest of the ladies, “I open up to him about my story, and, like, I’m not victimizing myself, but I know… I know my worth.” After his reaction, Emma explained, “Now I’m f**king afraid of going into the next [date.]”
Emma told Swooon, “I think the late bloomer call out was just very hard for me, because I was not with my friends who had sex when they were in high school, or where they were at this time.”
Eventually, Emma told both Connor and Mike about her adoption and her surgical scars, and both of them gave her the empathetic reaction she needed. Mike even opened up about a medical scare he had as an infant, telling her, “We’re fighters.”
Did Emma get engaged?
Yes, at the end of her time in the pods, Mike proposed to Emma. Ahead of his proposal, Emma gave Mike a collection of family update letters written by her mother throughout the years. Then he shared an adorable scrapbook with her. She told him, “I know that we will always have a good day,” and that he has “done nothing but build [her] up.” He then explained, “I really have never been this open with anyone else before.”
What has Emma said about having children?
“I’m not 100% yes. I’m not a no. I know a lot of people want kids, but for me, I don’t know yet,” she said in the pods. Since she does not know her birth family or their medical history, she’s unsure about bringing kids into the world. At the same time, Mike is convinced that Emma will be a great mother and can’t imagine his life without being a father. We’ll have to wait until later in the season to find out where they land on this major difference.
