Why Did TenZ & Kyedae Break Up? All About the Streamers’ Split

What To Know

  • Longtime couple TenZ and Kyedae announced their breakup on February 7.
  • TenZ and Kyedae both rose to fame as streamers of the video game Valorant.
  • Their split has sparked a major reaction from internet users.

The internet has been abuzz ever since Kyedae Shymko and Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, both of whom rose to fame as streamers of the video game Valorant, announced their split. “Love is not F***ING real,” one fan reacted, with plenty of others echoing the sentiment.

Others came to Kyedae’s defense following her February 7 post. “I wonder if i‘ll ever see a day where a women isn‘t the one being instantly villainized and blamed for a mutual decision,” says one viral comment. “Stop projecting your insecurity and toxicity onto a relationship you don‘t know anything about. maybe go to therapy instead of creating scenarios in your head.”

TenZ himself entered the conversation, reacting to the criticism of his ex. “It honestly hurts so much to see her being attacked when we BOTH supported each other through insanely difficult times,” the former professional gamer said. “All I ask is that you please respect Kyedae as a person and respect the decision we made together. This kind of pointless ‘drama’ is exactly why having a relationship in the public eye can be so draining.”

Swooon has broken down everything we know about their split and relationship history below.

When did TenZ and Kyedae break up?

Though Kyedae first broke the news on February 7, 2026, her post also said, “We’ve actually been broken up for quite some time now.” Rumors of their breakup began earlier, too. In mid-January, one fan speculated on social media, “Prob, Kyedae and he deleted their pics together from IG, including the engagement post. TenZ just moved to another place alone and isn’t wearing the ring.”

Why did TenZ and Kyedae break up?

Kyedae laid out the reasoning for their breakup in the announcement post. She said that she and TenZ realized that they had stopped growing as individuals toward the end of their relationship. “Over time, it became clear that we needed space to grow into our own people separately,” she wrote. “We know the internet often looks for ‘the tea’ but the truth is simple — we grew apart. There was no wrongdoing, no resentment, and no single event that caused this.”

A day later, TenZ backed up his ex in his own statement, confirming that they parted on mutual terms and still care for each other. He also shut down the fan speculation that Kyedae influenced him to retire from playing Valorant in September 2024. “People’s goals can change over time, and that is just what happened with me,” he said. “In a healthy relationship, there should never be comparisons about who sacrificed more or gave more — that mindset is immature and helps nobody.”

How long were TenZ and Kyedae together?

TenZ and Kyedae have been together since they were in high school. In the breakup post, Kyedae said, “We’ve even joked in the past that although we were together for six years, it felt like at least thirty. We moved in together just weeks after meeting, and from ages 17 to 24, that was all we knew.”

The content creators announced their engagement in August 2o22. “WE’RE ENGAGED!!!!” reads Kyedae’s X post. “To forever with you, my love. I couldn’t be happier to grow old with my favourite human being 💍”

In March 2023, she took to social media to share that she’d been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and would be starting treatment soon. In September 2023, she said that she’d finished chemotherapy.

Kyedae stepped away from streaming in April 2025, which she’d been considering for years. “Truthfully, streaming was never my dream or end goal,” she said on X. “That’s not to say it wasn’t a great opportunity (and yeah, it is an easy job in a lot of ways), but before I ever hit ‘go live,’ I was studying with plans to head to med school. I put that on the back burner to give streaming a real shot.”

She started to feel “resentment toward it,” leading to an “indefinite break.” Kyedae continued, “It’s what’s best for me right now — and honestly, I haven’t felt this happy and at peace in years. Part of this is due to some recent health complications, and part of it is just shifting priorities — I’ve taken on new commitments outside of streaming, including competing in Game Changers.”

In his February 8 statement, TenZ added, “[Kyedae] is also still dealing with ongoing health issues, which makes the negativity being spread even more heartbreaking and unfair.”
