What To Know

  • Navessa Allen’s Lights Out is being adapted.
  • Netflix is turning the book, which went viral on TikTok, into a TV show.
  • It’s a dark romance about a trauma nurse and her stalker.

Dark romances have taken over BookTok, and they’re about to start dominating TV. So far, we know three of them are in the works: Mindf*ck, Boys of Tommen, and now Lights Out. The latter, which was penned by author Navessa Allen, blew up on social media quickly after its 2024 publication. We figured it was only a matter of time before it got picked up by a studio, and our prediction was correct. Netflix is turning it into a TV show!

The first of Allen’s Into Darkness series, Lights Out fittingly incorporates TikTok into its plot. It tells the story of trauma nurse Aly, who fantasizes about the masked men she follows online. Little does she know that one of them is someone she’s met in real life: vigilante hacker Josh, her ex’s roommate. When Josh discovers Aly’s fixation, she quickly becomes the object of his obsession. He breaks into her house, and their steamy, dangerous encounter eventually evolves into a full-blown romance. With some anonymous stalking at the start, of course.

With Lights Out primed to break into (get it?) the TV landscape, what details have been revealed so far? We’ve done some investigative work. Get the latest updates on Lights Out’s premiere date, cast, and more below.

When is Lights Out coming out?

Lights Out doesn’t have a release date just yet. The adaptation was only announced on February 11, 2026. However, the project already has a showrunner, which is a good sign of the show’s momentum.

Who is in the Lights Out cast?

The show hasn’t yet found its Aly and Josh. While we wait for that casting announcement, you can check out Swooon‘s dream cast for the leads and the supporting players.

You can also read up on the team that’s bringing their story to life. Hannah Schneider, who worked on Why Women Kill, The Waterfront, and Accused, will act as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and Tracey Cook will executive produce. Allen herself will also serve as an executive producer, which is bound to reassure fans of the book.

Will the entire Into Darkness series be adapted?

Allen followed up Lights Out with 2025’s Caught Up, which follows another couple in the same universe. More specifically, it depicts the dark romance between Aly’s cousin and mafia member, Nico “Junior” Trocci, and Lauren Marchetti, a woman he grew up with who became an online sex worker. She’s set to publish a third book called Game On in March 2026. It’s centered around Josh’s roommate, Tyler, and his love interest, Stella.

When the TV adaptation was announced, there was no mention of future seasons. If Season 1 performs well, it’s possible Lights Out could take a Bridgerton approach and dedicate each season to a different couple, adapting Caught Up in a second season and Game On in a third. We’ll have to wait and see.

Does Lights Out have a trailer?

It’s still early days, so there’s no trailer yet! But you can trust that we’ll be keeping an eye out for any and all Lights Out updates. Check back here for news!
