‘Love Is Blind’s Emma Betsinger Defends Engagement to Mike Amid Kids Debate

While Emma Betsinger fell for three men in the Love Is Blind Season 10 pods, it was Mike Gibney who stole her heart.

During the first six-episode drop of Love Is Blind Season 10, viewers got to know the single Buckeyes looking for love sight unseen. An immediate fan-favorite, Emma found herself caught in a love square between Steven Sunday, Mike Gibney, and Connor Spies. Now, she’s sitting down with Swooon to break down her connection with all three guys, why she accepted Mike’s proposal, and how being uncertain about wanting kids impacted their relationship.

“I came in with a very open mind, and I wanted to see where all these connections took me. [In the pods,] so many things can change in a day, and to have ended with three guys, I was like, this is a lot.”

While her relationship with Steven was short-lived, she admitted, “Steven was very fun. I loved how bubbly and hyper and just always positive he was.”

On the other hand, Connor, who ended up getting engaged to someone else, reminded her of the people she would usually go for. She explained, “Connor was fun. His personality is someone that I would date outside of the pods, and was very similar to a lot of my ex-partners. That’s what really drew me towards him. He was goofy, and we were also able to talk about family.”

Ultimately, she accepted a proposal from Mike, who “was very calm and inquisitive.” She revealed, “I really liked all the questions that he asked. He really wanted to get to know me. And we have the same sense of humor, so that was really fun to banter in the pods. We have a lot of similar interests as well. But what really drew me to him was just him challenging me and diving deeper. If I said something, and he was curious about it, he would double-click in, and we would be able to have these really deep conversations.”

One thing Emma made clear to all of her potential partners was her uncertainty about wanting kids. “This was something that I knew coming into the pods, that I stood strong in my opinion of being unsure,” she told Swooon. “That’s not 100% yes, and that’s not no. Coming into this experiment, I did assume that there were going to be people who felt passionate [about wanting kids].”

Ultimately, she found Mike, who was incredibly passionate about his desire to be a father from the get-go. “One of those people did so happen to be Mike, and what I really valued about the pod experience with him and our conversations was that he was very open to the discussion and open to seeing my why and my side.”

According to Emma, she was not hesitant to say yes to Mike’s proposal, even though they had not come to an agreement on having kids just yet. She revealed, “The engagement was such an easy yes for me. Knowing that kids were involved, I knew that there was going to be Cabo-time [and] Columbus-time to talk through and figure that out as we learned more about each other.

“I did continue to have those hesitancies, in the back of my mind,” she confessed. “But I was like, we can talk about it. We can continue to talk about it, and then hopefully our love grows. I have always said, ‘If he’s the right partner, I would have kids.’ I wanted to see if he could be the right partner as we continued our journey together.”
