[Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for 56 Days.]
Avan Jogia and Dove Cameron‘s spicy thriller 56 Days is finally here, and boy, do we have a lot to discuss.
56 Days, which premiered on Prime Video on February 18, is (loosely) based on a book of the same name by Catherine Ryan Howard. The erotic thriller follows the steamy connection between Oliver Kennedy (Jogia) and Ciara Wyse (Cameron), from their eerily convenient meet-cute to the day detectives found a dead body decomposing in Oliver’s bathtub. Did Oliver kill Ciara? Did Ciara kill Oliver? Is there a secret third option? Now, we can finally break down that dramatic ending.
Scroll to find out everything that happens in the 56 Days Season 1 finale, including whose body is in that bathtub, who ends up together, and more. Please note that the following does contain mentions of suicide.
How are Ciara and Oliver connected in 56 Days?
It turns out that Ciara and Oliver have way more history than viewers are originally led to believe. While the series begins with Ciara and Oliver meeting for the first time, it turns out that Ciara (whose real name is Megan Martin) orchestrated their entire meet-cute to steal money from Oliver (whose real name is Oliver St. Ledger). While we know Oliver has done some shady things in his past, it’s not clear why Ciara/Megan is after him until later in the season.
As it turns out, Megan Martin and Oliver St. Ledger are from the same town: Narragansett, Rhode Island. Oliver was friends with Megan’s late brother, Shane, who took the fall for killing another boy named Paul Sparling.
Through flashbacks, we learn that Shane and Paul got into a squabble at Narrow River after Paul slandered Shane’s mom. Protecting Shane, Oliver tackled Paul in the water, where he drowned. While it was Oliver who killed Paul, his guidance counselor turned therapist, Dan Troxler (Patch Darragh), convinced him to lie, framing Megan’s brother for the murder. It is later revealed that Dan influenced Shane to kill himself in prison.

During Episode 5, Ciara admits to Oliver — well, he can’t hear her, but still — “My name is not Ciara. My name is Megan, and we did not meet on accident. I came here to find you on purpose to take what you owe me and my family because I thought I knew what happened in that river, but I don’t know, maybe I don’t.”
Who died in 56 Days?
As it turns out, the body in the bathtub is neither Ciara/Megan nor Oliver. Instead, Detectives Karl Connolly (Dorian Missick) and Lee Reardon (Karla Souza) find out that the decomposed body is Dan Troxler, Oliver’s unlicensed therapist. After Oliver dumps Dan, telling him that he’s happy with Megan, regardless of her original intentions, Dan shows up at his apartment, threatening to blackmail him. From there, Megan smashes him over the head with a small statue. The duo then dissolved his body in Oliver’s bathtub with guidance from Megan’s sister, Shyla (Megan Peta Hill), who also hates Dan.

Who takes the blame for Dan Troxler’s murder?
Of course, Megan and Oliver manage to create a crime scene so confusing that Karl and Lee are stumped for quite some time, allowing neither one of them to get caught. Instead, Karl and Lee peg the murder on Linus Finch (Dylan Colton), a drug dealer with whom Lee has been sleeping with. After Finch attempts to kill Lee and Karl in a drive-by, Karl plants Finch’s necklace in the evidence, causing another detective to conclude that Finch committed the murder. In turn, Megan and Oliver get off scot-free, even though Lee has a (correct) hunch that Megan did it.
Do Ciara and Oliver end up together 56 Days?
Yes, Ciara/Megan and Oliver end up together in the TV adaptation of 56 Days. At the end of Season 1, Megan and Oliver can be seen on the beach in the middle of a thunderstorm, as Megan tells her mother via letter, “Some people are meant to be together even under the worst of circumstances.” It is also revealed that Megan and Oliver have had an adorable baby, who is aptly named Shane, after her late brother.
