- The sneak peek hints at some rising tensions for Penelope and her role as the Ton’s top gossip columnist.
Bridgerton‘s Season 4 return with Part 2 means there’s fresh gossip to discuss over breakfast at the Featherington-Bridgerton household as Lady Whistledown herself, Penelope (Nicola Coughlan), sits down with her husband, Colin (Luke Newton), and her nosy mother, Lady Featherington (Polly Walker), in Swooon’s exclusive first look.
In the sneak peek clip above, Lady Featherington is quick to pry as she seeks out answers surrounding Lady Whistledown’s latest gossip sheet. “This mister and mistress you write about,” she preambles, before asking, “It is Mr. Hiscox, is it not?”
As viewers will recall, Mr. Hiscox (Cai Brigden) was introduced as Benedict’s (Luke Thompson) friend earlier in the season, and he was engaging in an affair with a mistress, which impacted Benedict’s outlook when it came to Sophie (Yerin Ha), hence that “be my mistress” offer on the staircase at the end of Part 1.
But while Lady Featherington is eager for answers, Penelope is trying to keep some secrets by avoiding name-dropping. “Please do not ask me that,” Penelope counters.

Colin, the ever-supportive husband that he is, reaches a hand out to take Penelope’s as he says, “No, I thought it was a finely written issue.”
“Well, surely you can tell me,” Lady Featherington tries again, “because I know it is Mr. Hiscox. Half the Ton knows, and I thought the whole point of Whistledown is that she always names names.”
Penelope responds, “She is rather tired of everyone in the Ton expecting her to write whatever they please.” We can’t help but sense there’s some tension from society’s leading gossip columnist. Whether that has to do with Queen Charlotte’s (Golda Rosheuvel) role in overseeing her work or not remains to be seen.
Will Lady Featherington be able to get the answers she seeks out of Penelope surrounding this latest bit of gossip? Check out the full clip above, and stay tuned for more domestic Polin moments as Season 4 of Bridgerton returns to Netflix.
