What To Know

  • Julia Quinn is the author of the Bridgerton book series.
  • There are eight main books about the Bridgerton siblings, with a couple of spinoffs set in the universe.
  • The author teased a new project related to the Bridgerton universe that’s in the works.

Bridgerton author Julia Quinn has been in the romance book game for decades — long before Netflix turned her Regency series into a TV show. Since The Duke & I came out in 2000, she published seven more books about the Bridgerton siblings’ romances, as well as two spinoff anthologies set within the universe. The latest novelized Netflix’s Queen Charlotte spinoff, accompanying the show in 2023.

When Swooon sat down with the author in February 2026 — around the same time Bridgerton Season 4 was premiering — we asked about the future of the Bridgerton book series. Did she see herself writing more in this fictional world she’s created? Would she ever consider revisiting one of her original eight couples or their children?

“I’ve already revisited all the OG couples with what’s called Second Epilogue, which are now bound into the books, so they don’t really seem like an ‘extra’ so much anymore,” she said before teasing, “I do have a project in the works, which I’m not really talking about right now, but you might enjoy it.” (We wondered once more if it could be kids-related, but she added coyly, “I’m not saying.”)

Though it’s been a few years since Quinn expanded the Bridgerton universe, she’s never been far from the world. She works as a consultant on the Netflix series. She told us that watching the cast’s performances have made her characters “that much more well-rounded.”

“You also have to remember, like, I wrote these books a really long time ago,” Quinn added. “So they’re coming back to me with these [show] characters, too. I don’t really reread my books. I will confess to having moments when I’ve been reading the scripts being like, ‘Did I write that? Was that from the book? Huh?’ And like, then going into my [book] file being like, ‘Did I write that line?'”

We pointed out that it must be surreal to see her characters come to life in the show. “It really is, although the most surreal aspect of it isn’t that,” she explained. “It’s more just how big everything’s gotten. I don’t necessarily even mean popularity. Just you go to the set and there are hundreds of people working there, and every now and then, someone will be like, ‘It’s all because of you and none of us would have jobs.’ Like, oh my gosh. That’s insane.”
