John Merrill and Theresa DeMaria quickly became a fan-favorite couple on Season 1 of Netflix’s newest dating experiment series, Age of Attraction. Now that family visits are coming, they may be in for their toughest test yet.
The new series follows six couples who all met and developed connections at a singles resort where age is left out of the equation. With ages ranging from 22 to 60, these couples formed despite major age gaps, allowing cast members to learn their partner’s age only after committing to one another. When it comes to John and Theresa, this meant revealing that one was double the other’s age!

Are Age of Attraction‘s John and Theresa still together?
As of Episode 5 of Age of Attraction, John and Theresa are still together. The two connected early on at the singles retreat. They became the first couple to commit and reveal their ages in the promise room during Episode 1. Theresa explained, “I feel like John is the one that I really wanna see this through with. It is crazy that it’s only been a couple of days, and my connection with John is super strong… There is a very good chance that I found my partner.”
Exchanging promise rings, John told Theresa how thankful he was to have met her. However, before sharing their ages, John worried, “If she thinks the age gap is more significant than she expected, than she thinks, than she feels, um, yeah, it could affect us for sure.”

How old are John and Theresa?
In the promise room, John revealed that he is 27 years old, while Theresa revealed that she is 54. Ahead of their reveals, Theresa guessed, “I think he’s in his thirties, but I’m hoping he’s 38 or older.” After he revealed that he’s in his twenties, Theresa exclaimed, “Did not expect that.”
Why is Theresa worried about her kids meeting John?
Ahead of their time in the promise room, Theresa was nervous about sharing her kids’ ages with John, rightly assuming that they were very close to his own. As it turns out, her youngest is 22, her daughter is 25, and her oldest is 29.
During Episode 5, hosts Nick and Natalie Joy Viall revealed that the cast members’ families would be coming to meet their new partners, causing Theresa to worry. She told John, “I don’t want to do this,” and walked off set. She later explained, “We’ve been in this bubble, and it’s really comfortable, and it’s really fun, and it’s great, and that’s not reality. Like, my reality is my kids.”
Viewers could then see Theresa tell John, “This is not a f**king joke. My kids are, like, everything to me. they’re every f**king thing. I don’t wanna hurt them.” According to Theresa, she doesn’t know if she could move forward with John if her kids don’t like him, which is “heartbreaking.”
