When it comes to the love interests of Hannah Montana‘s Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus), the first two that spring to your mind are likely Jake Ryan (Cody Linley) and Jesse (Drew Roy). However, we’d be remiss not to shout out Hannah Montana: The Movie’s swoonworthy cowboy Travis Brody (Lucas Till).
When the titular pop star travels home to Nashville, she reconnects with her childhood friend. The subsequent romance is (arguably) one of Miley’s best, though it doesn’t extend to the Disney Channel show. (Was it the distance between Tennessee and Malibu that broke them up? Inquiring minds need to know, but we digress.)
According to Till, his chemistry with Cyrus wasn’t entirely faked. While Travis was taking Miley on dates in her hometown in the 2009 film, the actors were doing the same thing off-screen. That’s right: There was a Hannah Montana showmance! Now that Hannah Montana is back in the zeitgeist with the 20th anniversary special — we have yet to find out which cast members will appear — we’re breaking down everything we know about Cyrus and Till’s past relationship.
How long were Miley Cyrus and Lucas Till together?
Cyrus and Till struck up a romance in 2008, when they were 15 and 17 years old. They dated during the two or so months that it took to shoot Hannah Montana: The Movie, months after her famous relationship with fellow Disney Channel star Nick Jonas fizzled out.
The public didn’t know about Till and Cyrus’ romance until the movie came out in April 2009, by which time they had broken up. On the press tour, Till answered a fan asking if he and Cyrus ever dated. “I think it will make the movie a little better ’cause it was definitely real,” the actor said during a Star 94FM Atlanta appearance.
Why did Miley Cyrus and Lucas Till break up?
That’s about the only mention of Cyrus and Till’s relationship, since the former never spoke out about it publicly. Till didn’t share a reason for their split, either. During the aforementioned interview, the fan followed up their question by asking if Till was still friends with Cyrus. The actor replied, “Of course I am,” so it seems that they parted on good terms.
These days, both actors are firmly off the market. Till is married to another Disney alum, Skyler Samuels, while Cyrus is engaged to drummer Maxx Morando. The latter couple have been romantically linked since 2021.
