What To Know

  • Bridgerton creator Shonda Rhimes has expressed interest in a spinoff focused on Violet Bridgerton.
  • Fans have called for a prequel about Violet’s love story with her late husband, Edmund.

More Bridgerton might be in the works, and we don’t mean Seasons 5 and 6. Creator Shonda Rhimes addressed the possibility of another spinoff set in the Regency universe after the success of 2023’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story — and she even teased which character it could be about.

“That’s an area that we’re excited about and know that that could be really rich and really mined well,” Rhimes said on the Glass Half Full podcast in March 2026. “I’ve always said that I thought if we were going to do something like that, Violet [Ruth Gemmell] would be a great person to tell the story about — the Bridgerton mom. Yeah, that’s a possibility.”

Rhimes isn’t the only one seeing the potential of a Violet-focused spinoff. Readers and show fans alike have called for a show exploring the matriarch’s backstory with her late husband, Edmund. Though he appears briefly in flashbacks in Bridgerton Season 2, played in his middle age by Rupert Evans, some hope to see the beginning of their love story on screen.

We already got young Violet (Connie Jenkins-Greig) in Queen Charlotte, which showed her a few years before she entered society, so we decided it was about time we put together a few actors we think could portray Edmund (at the age when he meets his future wife). Keep scrolling for the options, and then let us know who you think is best in the poll at the end of the page. Share your dream casting in the comments after, too!

Jonah Hauer-King

You know we had to include the Bridgerton fandom’s top choice.  Jonah Hauer-King‘s name has come up again and again when the subject of a Violet and Edmund spinoff comes up, and honestly, we’re in total agreement that he fits the bill. Not only can we see the family resemblance — especially next to Luke Thompson‘s Benedict — but Hauer-King also knows how to be a swoonworthy lead. (Hello, The Little Mermaid?)

Ben Radcliffe

We’d totally buy Ben Radcliffe as Edmund, especially when you look at him next to Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton. Beyond having the look, Radcliffe is just the right level of famous for Bridgerton, and he’s already got an upcoming Netflix period drama to his name: Age of Innocence, in which he plays Newland Archer. He also starred in the Downton Abbey-esque rom-com Fackham Hall, so he’s familiar with being a charming romantic lead. We’re sure a Bridgerton spinoff would be a natural progression.

Harry Richardson

Is it sacrilegious to star in a TV period drama while you’re attached to another one? We sure hope not because we think The Gilded Age‘s Harry Richardson could bring the loving Bridgerton patriarch to life. Anyone who’s seen him as Larry Russell in HBO’s series knows that Richardson can pull off the charming, kind romantic lead without breaking a sweat. Sure, he’s Australian instead of British, but so is Season 4 lead Yerin Ha. Plus, his American accent work in The Gilded Age is flawless.

Charlie Rowe attends the "Jay Kelly" Headline Gala at the 69th BFI London Film Festival at The Royal Festival Hall on October 10, 2025 in London, England.

Charlie Rowe

We’re just going to ignore that Charlie Rowe played the husband of Claudia Jessie‘s — aka Bridgerton‘s Eloise — character in ITV’s Vanity Fair. Though the spoiled and selfish George Osborne is a far cry from the sweet Edmund Bridgerton, Rowe’s got range and charisma, so we have confidence that his Edmund could believably sweep Violet off her feet.

Louis Partridge

Bridgerton leads usually skew a bit older, but we wanted to throw out a younger option who is closer in age to the 22-year-old Jenkins-Greig, should a potential spinoff keep her on as Violet. Louis Partridge may be a little too famous for Bridgerton, which usually picks lesser-known actors, but the actor has proven more than once that he’s a stellar romantic lead in a period drama. With projects like Enola Holmes and House of Guinness on his resume, we don’t doubt that he would fit in the Bridgerton universe.

Now, it’s time to make your thoughts known. Do you agree with any of our picks? Have a better idea? Tell us in the poll and comments section!
