‘All My Children’s Cady McClain Looks Back at ‘TV Marriage’ to Michael E. Knight
What To Know
- Dixie and Tad were one of All My Children’s most beloved couples.
- Cady McClain recently looked back at her “TV marriage” to costar Michael E. Knight.
- Knight is currently working on General Hospital, while McClain is on Beyond the Gates.
Even though All My Children is no longer on the air, we still miss the residents of Pine Valley — especially our supercouples. One of the soap’s most defining pairs was Tad “The Cad” Martin (Michael E. Knight) and Dixie Cooney (Cady McClain).
Recently, McClain has been reminiscing about her career in soaps, looking back at moments like her Daytime Emmy win and the first time Tad and Dixie got married. She shared a sweet photo of Tad and Dixie on their wedding day, a memorable moment for the beloved couple.
“Also me. 1990? First TV marriage to ‘Tad’ on ‘All My Children.’ I think we were married three times, lol. Not sure who to credit for this photo. Thank you, ABC, for your belief in me and support of my work,” she wrote on Instagram.
Dixie and Tad actually got married in December 1989, so McClain wasn’t too far off! The couple got divorced a few months later in 1990, but they reconciled. Dixie and Tad were planning on getting married again when he was caught in an explosion and presumed dead. Tad was actually alive, and he reunited with Dixie years later.

They married again in 1994, but they divorced… again. The couple wed for a third time a few years later, which was followed by yet another split. They were in the process of reuniting for a fourth time when Dixie was involved in a car crash and was believed to be dead. There was a whole Dixie spirit storyline in there, but we later learned that Dixie was alive and being held captive by David Hayward (Vincent Irizarry). Talk about a long story for another day. Dixie and Tad married for a fourth time in 2013.
Back in 2023, McClain and Knight reflected on Dixie and Tad’s love story and how their very first kiss changed everything. “I remember the scene that we did with the yarn and the first kiss. I was knitting, and you were going to have to kiss me,” McClain said in 2023, per SoapHub. “I think you were rolling the yarn into a ball, and I was knitting, and we were on a sofa. We had to do that first kind of very tender kiss. And I remember after that — like just the vibe and the whole studio and the camera people were like, ‘Oh yeah, this is, this is it.'”
Knight is gearing up for his annual break from General Hospital. The actor has played Martin Grey, who is now off to Reno to work a new case, since 2019. McClain has had a recurring role on Beyond the Gates since 2025.
