‘Bridgerton’: Will Eloise Get Married in Season 5? Inside the Fan Theory

What To Know

  • Season 5 of Bridgerton will focus on Francesca’s romance with Michaela Stirling.
  • Regardless, fan theories suggest Eloise may marry by the end of the season.
  • We’re breaking down why Eloise’s wedding could occur early, based on what we know of Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton books.

Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie) will remain “on the shelf” for a little while longer, but that doesn’t mean wedding bells won’t be in her future.

Bridgerton has revealed that Eloise’s sister, Francesca (Hannah Dodd), will take the lead in Season 5, during which she’ll fall in love with her late husband’s cousin, Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza). The announcement has led to fans wondering what exactly Eloise will get up to while she waits to have her star turn in the Netflix drama. Some think she could still walk down the aisle, even though Francesca’s love story is the focus. (Warning: The following contains MAJOR spoilers for Julia Quinn’s To Sir Phillip, With Love.)

Let us explain why we’re totally buying into this theory. Eloise’s book, To Sir Phillip With Love, is about a marriage of convenience that turns into something more. “Her story actually starts with the marriage, rather than ending with the marriage,” showrunner Jess Brownell explained to Vanity Fair. The meat of her romance comes after her nuptials, so it would make sense if the wedding took place before Season 6 so it could get right into the good stuff.

Further, though the show has been known to adjust the timelines of the books, Francesca and Eloise’s stories do overlap. Francesca’s wedding to Michael (in the books) occurs shortly after Eloise marries Sir Phillip Crane (Chris Fulton), whom Brownell has confirmed Eloise will end up with in the show. Eloise starts writing letters to Phillip about a year prior to their first in-person meeting, which we could see her doing at the start of Season 5. It’ll take place two years after Season 4.

It’s not unprecedented for Bridgerton to combine the events of different siblings’ books into one season, either. Francesca married John (Victor Alli) during Colin (Luke Newton) and Penelope’s (Nicola Coughlan) Season 3, and John died during Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie’s (Yerin Ha) Season 4 — all of which happen later in books.

At the end of Season 4, Eloise was slowly starting to come around to the idea of marriage, so we could totally see her accepting Phillip’s proposal in Season 5. In case you were wondering, Phillip offers marriage to Eloise, knowing she’s a spinster, because he believes his twins need a mother. His first wife, Marina (Ruby Barker), dies, which has yet to happen in the show.

Marina, a distant Featherington cousin, and Phillip married in Season 1 of Bridgerton. Phillip discoverd that Marina is pregnant with his late brother’s children, who were conceived out of wedlock, so he saves her from ruin. Eloise and Phillip have yet to interact on screen — it’s actually Marina’s death that prompts Eloise to write to Phillip in the first place.

Do you think Bridgerton can manage to squeeze that part of Eloise’s story into Season 5 and end with her wedding? Or should they wait to have Eloise walk down the aisle in Season 6? Tell us in the comments below!
