All About Penelope Douglas’ ‘Five Brothers’ Adaptation at ‘Heated Rivalry’ Network
What To Know
- Penelope Douglas’ dark romance novel Five Brothers has been optioned by Crave.
- Crave is the network behind Heated Rivalry.
We’ve seen hockey romance adaptations take over with Heated Rivalry and Off Campus, and it looks like networks are exploring yet another popular book subgenre. Anyone familiar with the BookTok landscape could tell you that dark romances have taken off over the past few years. If they know that, they also probably recognize Penelope Douglas‘ name — the author’s extremely NSFW books have become some of the biggest book hits. Now, one of them is getting the TV show treatment.
Douglas’ Five Brothers — you can probably guess what it’s about from the title — has been picked up by Crave, the company that made Heated Rivalry. Considering its scandalous premise, Five Brothers is an even bigger swing than the gay hockey romance, so the news of an adaptation has been met with a big reaction on social media. Get the full rundown on the plot and more below.
What is Five Brothers’ release date?
Five Brothers has only been optioned by Crave, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s May 26 article. Douglas revealed on Instagram that it’s been optioned for multiple seasons, but a release date wasn’t shared. It’s still early days.
What is the plot of Five Brothers?
Released in 2024, Five Brothers follows Krisjen Conroy as she becomes entangled with five brothers. The 18-year-old comes from a wealthy town in Florida, where she’s been neglected by her father and pressured by her mom to marry an older man. On the poorer and wilder side of town, she meets the Jaegers: There’s 31-year-old ex-Marine Macon, 28-year-old single dad Army, prison-bound Iron, 21-year-old bully Dallas, and the untamable Trace.
Krisjen has a casual fling with Trace, the youngest brother. When she’s stranded on the Jaeger couch overnight, someone approaches her from behind. She lets him comfort her — and eventually sleep with her. She never sees his face, and though he wears the family bracelet, she doesn’t think it was Trace.
“Five Brothers was such an immersive writing experience for me with a cast of characters I connected to immediately,” Douglas said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “I can’t wait to see these men brought to life.”
Will Tryst Six Venom be adapted in the Five Brothers TV show?
Before Five Brothers, Douglas published Tryst Six Venom, which follows the sixth and youngest Jaeger sibling Olivia. She has a romance with another girl at her private school, Clay. Olivia doesn’t fit in amongst Clay’s rich and popular crowd, and Clay bullies Olivia for it while hiding her own web of secrets.

On Instagram, Douglas confirmed that the sapphic romance will be featured in the show. “I’m beyond excited,” the author wrote. “A little nervous but excited. You all know how much I love these characters, and there is so much room in Sanoa Bay/St. Carmen for expansion and an even deeper dive into the Jaeger family. I’m thrilled with the passion behind this offer.”
Will Five Brothers be available to stream in the U.S.?
As Heated Rivalry fans know, the hockey romance was at first only going to be available on Crave, a Canada-only streaming service. It was picked up for wider distribution by HBO Max. As of now, it’s too soon to know whether Five Brothers will hit a U.S. streamer, but we’ll update this page if that happens!
