Berner and Bishop have a nearly 16-year age difference. She was born in August 1991, and he was born in November 1975.
In an essay for Elle, Berner revealed that Bishop is the oldest guy she’s ever been romantic with, and noted that she was immediately impressed by how he compared to the men she’d dated in the past.
“I had always dated guys in their 20s or early 30s,” she shared. “They usually had three other roommates crammed into a tiny New York City apartment, wanted to black out every weekend, and didn’t have the faintest idea what they actually wanted to do with their lives.” She felt these men were never “husband material,” but had a completely different feeling when she met Bishop.
“He’d been to therapy. He loved his career. He’d also been sober since age 19, and I found that super attractive,” Berner added. “No drunken fights? Staying in on the weekend and eating good food while watching cult documentaries instead? Sign me up!”

She noted that there’s no “imbalance of power” in her relationship with Bishop, which is why it works despite the age gap. “You never want your partner to feel like they have control over you,” Berner wrote. “You want to feel like equal partners navigating life together.”
How did Hannah Berner and Des Bishop meet?
Berner and Bishop met via Instagram. She had actually seen him perform stand-up comedy six years before they started dating and was attracted to him. However, since he was living in Ireland at the time, she decided not to approach him for a conversation after the show.
“A couple of years later, when I got into the comedy scene myself, he started following me on Instagram. I followed him back, but we never spoke, mainly due to the distance,” Berner explained.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought Bishop back to New York City from Ireland, and he asked Berner out via Instagram DM. She loved his straightforwardness, writing, “He picked me up for our date in a black BMW convertible, and I remember immediately feeling calm with him. When we sat down, it was clear that he was interested.”
Shortly after she started seeing Bishop, Berner left for the Hamptons to film Season 5 of Summer House. But they continued talking and FaceTiming, leading to Bishop visiting her and even appearing on the show. They exchanged “I love yous” during the visit and moved in together that fall.
Bishop proposed on Valentine’s Day 2021, and the two tied the knot in July 2022.
Does Hannah Berner have kids?
No, Hannah and Des do not have any children. In early 2026, fans suspected that Hannah accidentally revealed she was pregnant on an episode of Giggly Squad.
“Turns out [it’s] much more complicated to get pregnant. Turns out no … Turns out you actually need a needle. You need to inject yourself with some sh**.” This came after she previously commented on how “difficult” it was to have a baby.
