Kathy Griffin isn’t afraid of a hard launch. The 65-year-old comedienne took to social media to reveal that she’s in a relationship with a man more than half her age — and it’s not the 23-year-old man she wrote about in her buzzy December 2025 The Cut essay.
Griffin shared a photo of herself hand-in-hand with her new boyfriend, who’s 43 years her junior, on Thursday, July 9. “He’s 22. Have at it, internet,” she wrote bluntly in the caption on Instagram. She even shared it to her Story for good measure.

It’s not the first time she’s hard-launched a relationship without identifying the other party. On May 18, Griffin shared a since-deleted photo of herself hugging a man that, according to Page Six, looked closer to her in age. In the caption, she wrote, “We’re insta official. Deal with it. (to any straight guy that is secretly hot for me, but is afraid of what his ‘bro’ friends would say).”
She elected not to share more details, though the outlet said that she did confirm that he wasn’t a celebrity in the comments section. “No. Not famous,” she responded to a fan. “Not in the entertainment industry at all.”

It’s also not the first time Griffin has dated younger. In December 2025, she penned an essay for The Cut about her experience on dating a man “half her age” following her divorce, which she filed for in December 2023.
“I accidentally fell in love with a 23-year-old,” she wrote. “Because of his age, he didn’t have the usual sexism, misogyny, and biases that guys my age tend to have.”
Griffin never identified the subject of her essay, whom she met on a dating app. She described how they both knew the relationship wouldn’t last. “But it was nice to know that my heart could still feel like that in my 60s, and it was nice to have the universe show me a guy that I really got a kick out of but also respected,” she said. “I thought he was smart. I thought he could roll in different worlds. It sounds cliché, and maybe he was an old soul, but I don’t know, we just clicked.”
She continued, “I knew he was too young when he told me he never wanted to have kids and that he could be with me forever. And I was like, ‘You don’t know that. You’re 23. You have no idea.’ I just wouldn’t do that to him. I mean, when I was 23, I thought I knew a lot of s**t, but I didn’t. So I had to set that dove free… He’s so young that he didn’t have this baggage. And I just knew that my baggage was gonna get in the way.”

Griffin was married to marketing executive Randy Bick, whom she met in 2012 and married in 2020. They officially separated about four years later. “I’m not gonna lie, that divorce took me out,” she wrote in The Cut. “I was madly in love with him, and I know some people can maintain a relationship after it’s over, but I couldn’t do it.”
She also touched on their 18-year age gap. “I haven’t been with a guy my age since I was in my 30s,” she explained. “I don’t know what it is, but my ex-husband was 18 years younger than me. Pretty much since then, I’ve only been asked out by younger guys. So I’m constantly called a cougar, but I don’t mind. I kind of am a cougar, which to me just means you have the freedom to choose the person that you want as opposed to the age bracket that society tells you is the only option for you.”
From 2001 to 2006, Griffin was married to her first husband, Matthew Moline, who works in tech. Griffin doesn’t have children from either marriage.
