Whitney Fransway and Kenny Martin dealt with some ups and downs on In the City this season, but they’ve come out stronger because of it. The Summer House spinoff’s debut season documented the couple’s relationship after Whitney moved from Los Angeles to New York City to be with Kenny after just a few months of dating.

But despite the relationship being put under a “microscope” on the show, Whitney told Swooon that she and Kenny are “so much closer” now and are already planning the next steps in their relationship.

“I think [an engagement] will happen this year,” Whitney teased. “So, we’ll see.”

While filming In the City last fall, Whitney and Kenny’s friends grew concerned about their romance when he told Kyle Cooke he was worried about losing the “spark” with Whitney. The message got back to The Bachelor alum, but wound up mostly being a miscommunication.

“We have had conversations about his lack of ‘spark’ for the future in general,” Whitney explained. “I think he definitely could’ve chosen a better word on the show to describe that, but healing his relationship with his dad and getting more answers to what was unknown for 25 years, I think that really helped with his abandonment. I think he didn’t even really know what he was carrying, especially [after his mom’s death].”

Whitney said that Kenny finding his dad and having a conversation with him for the first time in years helped him get excited about the future again. “It was definitely affecting his relationships, just feeling like people wouldn’t be in his life forever and carrying that fear and that wound and pessimism that things wouldn’t work out,” she added. “So I feel like that’s really helped us, and we’re having so many conversations about our future and us having found our person.”

She said their relationship has done a “total 360” since Kenny mended things with his father.

Whitney has now been living in New York for nearly a year after moving into Kenny’s place last fall. “I feel like it’s very much our home [now],” she shared. “There’s just a lot more certainty and answers and reassurance in where we are and where we’re headed. It’s a great place to be in.”

This summer, Whitney and Kenny are “kind of winging” it. After a recent trip to the Hamptons, they’re heading to L.A. soon and will get to spend time with some of her friends there. “We’re also launching a snack brand,” she revealed. “Hopefully next month. That’s the goal. It keeps getting pushed back, but we’re really excited about that. We’ve been working on it all year, and it’s something we haven’t really talked too much about. That’ll hopefully be in August.”
