‘Sterling Point’ Cast Reveals Their Season 1 Hot Takes: Who’s Team Rory?
The Sterling Point cast has strong feelings about everything from vinegar on fries to who Annie (Ella Rubin) should’ve ended up with.
Megan Park’s coming-of-age drama series has had viewers entranced since its August 5 premiere. When 17-year-old Annie inherits a small Canadian island from her late grandfather, her life gets a whole lot messier. Annie and her new friends (and sister) make some complicated choices as they navigate the aftermath of their parents’ even messier choices years ago. Their actions create the grounds for plenty of hot takes.
That’s why we had to ask Rubin, Keen Ruffalo (Connor), Amélie Hoeferle (Ramona), Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie (Ellis), Daniel Quinn-Toye (Rory), Bo Bragason (Oona), Nikko Angelo Hinayo (Sully), and Mabel Strachan (Maple) for their hot takes about the show when they visited Swooon‘s studio. They shared their “Sterling Points,” if you will. (Warning: Major Season 1 spoilers ahead!)
Rubin got the ball rolling by bringing up Stacey Mallory (Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova), Ramona’s rival for Oona’s affection. “I’m obviously Team Ramona. Always, Ramoona. Forever Ramoona. Like, that is not a doubt in my mind,” she began. “I just think Stacey Mallory is being blamed for something that she’s just… She’s dating a beautiful woman, and she’s trying to just live her life.”

After getting into their thoughts about vinegar on fries — apparently, that’s a thing in Canada — the cast broached an even greater hot-button topic: The love triangle between Annie, Ellis and Rory. You aren’t alone if you found yourself thinking that Rory is the better choice by the end of Season 1. Bragason stated her case for Annie having a different endgame in the video above.
Of course, the parents in Sterling Point are the most controversial figures of the show, so they came up, too. Steven (Jay Duplass) might be the villain in some viewers’ eyes, considering he hid the existence of Ramona from Annie and Connor their entire lives and kept the twins from having a relationship with their maternal grandfather.
“Listen, his wife cheated on him, and then she tried to run off with their kids, who they adopted together, and they decided to raise somewhere else, and she wanted to raise them in Muskoka where she was seeing somebody else,” Ruffalo said of his take on Steven.
“Is this Goldie slander?” Hoeferle wondered, while Rubin added, “Is this in defense of men?”
