Where is Jack Champion from?
Champion grew up in Blacksburg, Virginia. In an interview with I-D, the actor explained that he was raised in a rural campus town by his dad and microbiologist mother, both of whom he described as “dorky, booksmart, natural PhD Masters people.”
He, on the other hand, “never got straight As.” He added, “School’s not my thing, and sports is not my thing. ‘S**t, I’m out of luck!’ But luckily I found acting.”
In preparation for his Avatar role, Champion spent five years traveling around the world and learning parkour, ju-jitsu, and boxing. “It was insane, coming from Virginia, going to train in Hawaii, then going to LA, for performance capture,” he said. “I missed home, but once I’m back it’s the best feeling.”
