Novak Djokovic is peeling back the curtain to give fans a look inside his life on and off the tennis court in the new documentary Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter. Of course, that will include some insight into his relationship with his wife, Jelena Djokovic, whom he married in 2014.
“She’s been my girlfriend, fiancée, and my wife for more than 20 years, and I’m eternally grateful for her love, her support, the relationship that has evolved over the years,” the pro athlete told People.
The two have been married for more than a decade and were together for years before that. Scroll down for more to know about Jelena and her relationship with the tennis legend.
What does Novak Djokovic’s wife do for a living?
After graduating from Bocconi University in Milan, Jelena briefly worked at an oil company in Monte Carlo, where she was living with Novak at the time.
Today, she is the CEO of the Novak Djokovic Foundation, which she cofounded with her husband. The couple founded the early childhood education organization to benefit kids in Serbia, as it grants “every child” in the country the opportunity “to attend early years programs.”
How did Novak Djokovic meet his wife?
Novak and Jelena were high school sweethearts. They were both tennis players at their high school in Serbia and began dating. In the early days of Novak’s professional tennis career, while Jelena was at college in Milan, they managed a long-distance relationship.
“I was a student barely getting by, and he was a very young tennis player who also had no money to spare on expensive trips,” she previously told Hello! “Airplanes were, at the time, something utterly out of our reach. We contrived and devised these plans on how to meet, how to make our relationship work.”
It wasn’t until 2013 that Novak and Jelena got engaged. At that point, they had already been together for eight years.
Does Novak Djokovic have kids?
Yes, Novak and Jelena are parents to two children. Their son, Stefan, was born in 2014, just three months after their wedding, followed by daughter Tara in 2017. Stefan has started following in his father’s tennis footsteps and was even seen hitting with Novak on the practice court at Wimbledon in 2024.

Novak has credited Jelena with holding down the fort at home while he’s on the road for his career. “She was keeping the household together, nurturing our children and helping them also overcome, as they’ve grown older, the absence of their father, which is something that hurts me the most, even these days,” he said.
While Novak admitted it’s “actually very painful” to have to leave his wife and kids so often, he added that he tries to be “as present as [he] possibly can” when he’s at home.
