‘Clashing Through the Snow’ Director Teases Christopher Briney & Michelle Randolph Rom-Com

Christmas has come early because we have some new details about Clashing Through the Snow. Since it was filmed earlier this year, Amazon MGM’s upcoming movie has caught the eye of The Summer I Turned Pretty fans, since it stars lead actor Christopher Briney alongside Landman‘s Michelle Randolph.
Behind the camera is director Carlson Young, who’s fresh off the Prime Video rom-dram The Last Sunrise. When she stopped by Swooon‘s studio to discuss the former, she gave us some insight into her next project, which has been described as “Planes, Trains and Automobiles for today’s generation.”
Unlike Planes, Trains and Automobiles, however, Young confirmed that Clashing Through the Snow leans more into the rom-com genre than straight-up comedy. In fact, as you might’ve guessed from the title, it’s a rom-com of the enemies-to-lovers variety. Briney and Randolph play rival coworkers at a book publisher who embark on a cross-country road trip when all flights are grounded during the holidays.
“I think that Chris and Michelle are so phenomenal in the movie,” Young told Swooon. “I think you get to see a comedic flexibility in both of them that is going to feel really exciting to see. They’re both so phenomenal in what you know them from, but I think this shows a totally different side to them and where they can go. It’s a really fun script.”
Young hadn’t seen Briney’s more dramatic chops in The Summer I Turned Pretty ahead of filming the new rom-com. “I did like a deep dive, obviously, before working with Chris,” she said. “And he’s awesome. But I think if you like him, then you will love Clashing. If you like Michelle, you will love Clashing.”
In March, fans spotted Briney shooting scenes in a Santa suit, beard and all. Prime Video shared a closer behind-the-scenes look at him and Randolph, who wears her own Mrs. Claus outfit, in costume. “It’s a fun scene,” Young teased. “It’s a really sweet moment where they have to suit up to get from Point A to Point B, and they’re going to do whatever it takes. I don’t want to give too much away, but it’s really cute.”

In fact, those Santa suit scenes took place on the first day of filming. “It was this elaborate Christmas mall set,” Young recalled. “It was their first day, and we had just had a camera test the day before of seeing what their characters were going to be looking and feeling like, and then our first day it was like, ‘Well, anyway, here’s Santa.’ I’ll figure that out later.”
