The series follows Martin Best (Josh Charles), an accomplished surgeon who leaves behind his career in Boston to become the general practitioner in a small fishing village where he spent his summers as a kid. Martin doesn’t get off on the best foot with the locals, including schoolteacher Louisa Gavin (Abigail Spencer). Slowly but surely, Martin begins to loosen up and embrace the charm of the cozy town he used to love so much.
