It’s been twenty years since Miley Cyrus stepped into Hannah Montana‘s rhinestone-covered shoes, and we’re still not over the pop princess and her alter ego, Miley Stewart’s wild love life.
While being both Miley and Hannah was truly the “Best of Both Worlds” when it came to being a regular kid moonlighting as a popstar, the same may not have been true when it came to romance. After all, who can forget Miley’s epic love triangle between bad boy Jesse (Drew Roy) and famous actor Jake (Cody Linley)? After two decades, everyone still has their favorite.
Now, even Miley Cyrus has given her two cents on her character’s love life, sharing in an interview with Variety, “Team Jesse is probably more my real choice. I would kind of go for that bad boy, rockstar energy. But I think Jake just made sense for Hannah, so I think I was more Team Jake at the time. Hannah’s more Jake, Miley’s more Jesse.” Playing into her “why choose” mentality, she added, “I like the kind of poly life we’re putting together for Miley and Hannah. That’s nice. Very, very modern.”
Ahead of the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special, we’re rounding up all of Miley and Hannah’s most significant love interests to decide the best, worst, and everything in between.

6. Oliver Oaken
While Oliver Oken (Mitchel Musso) seemed like he could be a viable love interest for Miley Stewart at the start of the series — after all, he did want to be Mr. Hannah Montana — it’s clear that Oliver and Lily (Emily Osment) were meant to be. Sorry, Moliver fans, we’re Team Lolliver all the way!

5. Jesse McCartney
Honestly, it would be pretty iconic if Hannah Montana dated real-life singer-songwriter Jesse McCartney. However, their romance was really the aftermath of Miley’s wish on a star to be Hannah all the time. Sure, we’d love to date our celebrity crush, too, but, to quote another Disney favorite, when it comes to magic, “Everything is not what it seems.”

4. Jake Ryan
We all have a soft spot for Jake Ryan, but looking back (without the rose colored glasses), his relationship with Miley was not “a movie.” This guy made appearances in all four seasons, and he was the third character to find out the “Hannah Secret,” but trust us, he could not be trusted. In his final episode, aptly titled “It’s the End of Jake as We Know It,” he cheated on Miley. We haven’t trusted a man with an early 2000s Justin Bieber haircut since.

3. Travis Brody
This was a hard choice, but we had to put Miley’s Hannah Montana: The Movie love interest, Travis Brody (Lucas Till), third on our list. Of course, Travis understood Miley’s roots and was a grounding force when she needed it most, but their relationship felt like more of a vacation fling than the real deal. Yes, Miley Stewart will always find her way back home, but she doesn’t want to live there forever.

2. Jesse
Fine, we’ll admit it, we love a bad boy. When it comes to Miley’s legendary love triangle, we have to agree with the legend herself that Jesse, who never did get a last name, was the right choice. Do we think Miley and her guitarist boyfriend are still together today? No, probably not. But their relationship was exactly what she needed while it lasted.

1. Johnny Collins
Sorry Jake/Travis/Jesse truthers, this is a Johnny Collins (Corbin Bleu) fan page at heart. We only see Johnny two times during the series: The pilot episode (ketchup is a wonderful moisturizer, thank you) and a Season 2 episode in which he returns, goes on a date with Hannah, meets up with Miley and promptly abandons her after she vomits, but who hasn’t been there, right? Miley Cyrus and Corbin Bleu’s chemistry was immaculate, so we’re choosing to believe these two find their way back to each other some day.
